If this is your first console, what have you played on so far? PC, I presume. In which case, what is your PC and what can you play. This'll affect what's worth getting on PS4.

Also is there any chance of imports? Sometimes these can be got a lot cheaper. If you say where you are, you may get more specialist buying advice.

Wolfenstein and Killzone for single player fps, Battlefield 4 for multiplayer fps. I personally thought Infamous was the most impressive title so far for graphics.

Battlefield 4 would probably be my pick, gameplay wise, now that they have sorted out the online issues (mostly).

However you really need to put about 20 hours in to appreciate the game - especially if you are new to consoles (and aiming on consoles, in particular) you are probably going to have your ass handed to you a lot.

Good starting game for console gamer?

Ice Climber.

If it was good enough for me in 1986, it's certainly good enough for you!

If you're looking for a console experience - my bet would be Fusion Trials, Resogun and perhaps Infamous Second Sun (although I've never played that one). BF4 would be the ideal candidate for a FPS game and I'm sure enough of members here play this.

The reason why I noted Fusion Trials, Resogun and perhaps ISS is because I think these types of games are rather uncommon on PC and probably better to play using a controller in a livingroom. Enjoy your PS4 when you get it!

Trials actually has traditionally been a PC game, but I agree that some of the games that are more suitable to controllers and console specific can be more interesting for a first time console gamer, depending partly on whether that PC gamer used a controller for gaming before on PC. ;)

In that light, Zen Pinball is really nice on consoles as well. Just give it a go, the main game is free, and you can buy one or two tables for next to nothing to see if you like it - come back for recommendations if you think you'll like it.

As for Third Person Shooters, may be worthwhile noting that Infamous may not look like it, but it involves a lot of third person shooting. ;) But has all the benefits of being more 'platformer' almost in style and thus very nice with the controller. Tomb Raider is also liked by many (though I'm not that big of a fan), but the Last of Us, coming out late next month, is definitely one to look out for as well.

Agreed with The Last of Us, I'd add Resogun and NBA 2k14 -or 15 when it comes out-, plus maybe Infamous if you want great graphics.

I am not a PS4 owner, but I am judging from what I've seen.
