thanks but those overrides are only for reading, not writing I think
already tried them at least and I still got the mismatch error

how would I go about if I would flash this one with an 6800 GT BIOS (I have the board and know how to dump the BIOS so all I need to know is how to edit the BIOS device ID or override the flasher ID checker)

Heh looks like everyone got this figured out, I went ahead and investigated the issue with Nvidia.

They contacted me and said the board itself was defective with a bad bios, And they are shipping him a new board. The 6800 Non Ultra line will feature 12 pipelines as intended.(some of the information may have gotten mis understood as it was passed along)

No Conspiracy folks. Just a Dud Bios/card

I know its late. But oh well ;)

oops, sorry I forgot to follow up on this thread(I thought I did but apparently not)

Leadtek sent me the updated BIOS and proper instruction and after adding "nm" to the commandline it flashed properly

now working with 12 pipes (325/700 MHz) no problems
I hope to try a 16 pipe BIOS later on :D

the card is fine, it just shipped with the wrong BIOS (wrong number of quads activated, wrong clock frequencies)

haven't had much time to try it out actually, I just did some fillrate benchmarks to confirm the number of activated quads

my socket 939 mobo just broke down a bit later so I'm gonna test it in another system

let me know how it performs against the x800pro.

My brother in laws birthday is coming up next month. So my sisters and I are going to buy him a new video card so he can play eq2 with us. But he is a nvidia fan. Soo the pro wont do

from the few tests I've run so far I think it's safe to say that the X800 Pro will walk all over it, not that this is strange, the 6800 is 100 USD cheaper

I doubt it will "walk all over it" in OpenGL games (at least, until the rewrite of OGL code) :D But yes, the Pro should generally be faster, naturally given the boost in core clock frequency and memory speed.

Will be interesting to see the benchmarks on this new card.

I think the Pro will also be far too hot for it also, and although the Pro is more expensive as you correctly point out jvd, it does seem to overclock well also. The GT v X800 pro battle looks like it going to be a good one.

I am looking forward to how well these two cards overclock. I'm also interesting in the BIOS flash to a 6800U to see what happens, let us know AnteP :) Maybe more pipes, or maybe better overclocks. If you get 16 pipes it's going to be heavily weighted towards gpu power than memory though :D

Assuming Ufon has inadvertently given us our first ever bench of the 6800XT value card with 8 pipes ( thanks :) ) it looks like a good buy if it is going to be the same price as the current 5900XT come winter or whenever.

    Thanks, really interesting. :)

*edit* BTW have you the new 61.5* drivers? 61.12 seems to be quite old drivers right now.

In the days when I tested two NV40 cards were 61.12 latest :'-(

Later I measured FX5900, FX5950 and two ATI cards for comparison.

    Looks good, Ufon.

I'm still puzzled as to why NV40 does so well in 3DM03 compared to the X800P.

You're right. In Czech rep. we (all servers about HW and IT magazines) have cards obviously max. a week for testing, no cards remain for later comparison :'-(

For czech people is typicall be very very careful about money and valuable things and high-end graphic cards with fast decreasing price must be returned very soon.

Only small part of cards are samples and we have no samples direct from NVIDIA or ATI (our servers are only in czech language and not very famous).

It's sort of amusing to read on other sites people complaining that releasing a driver every 30 days by the Catalyst team is "too often;" but on the nVidia side of the fence getting a beta every 3 days isn't often enough...;)
