Cards are definitely in stock, newegg is showing 5 brands of GTX/GTS. About $100 too expensive for me to buy just to play with though considering i'd problably want it replaced in a couple months ;).

I must say, cosmetically i prefer the color scheme nVidia had going on their reference card coolers over anything i've seen retail.

Think they're nuts charging an additional $100 for a waterblock on that BFGtech card.

oh and a hefty 29 page review from http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2870&p=1

GTS + GTX and GTX SLI which i havent seen much of, seems to be working quite well.

Nobody benchmarked TR: Legend. Wouldnt of minded seeing the performance improvement on that engine. Certainly gives cards a hard time, especially the nVidia 7 series.

Komplett now shows them, arriving on Nov 16:

    GTS: €479/£315

GTX: €669/£435 (much much cheaper than those overclocker prices, IIRC)

    UK: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/kc.asp?bn=10412

    Ireland: http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10488

I'm still left to wonder when Dell might start making either available as an option. I may just spec a PC at Dell with a low-end card and order a GTS from Komplett, but I'd like to be sure the PC will accomodate it (from a power/space POV)..

I was running Tomb Raider Legend @ 1280x1024 with 4xAA/16xAF in Next Gen mode at about 55-60 FPS. I had never tested it with any other card however.

thanks! well over 100% above a 7900gtx or x1950 in nextgen with AA, very very impressive. Knew that would of been a good GPU limited test to use.

Well i know from experiance it really gave the current cards a hard time, especially around alot of water, FPS could easily hit the teens or single digits in nextgen mode. I was expecting a healthy boost and from those results its there. Sort of surprised more places didnt use it as a benchmark.

Sorry for the dumb question, but what is TR Legends: Next Gen?

just a game setting in tomb raider legends, basically something like an "all in one" package that enables a bastard form of HDR and increases the texture quality + parallax mapping as well as increasing shaders tremendously. Makes performance noticeably sluggish though.

Hats off to NV for not only meeing the challange but raising the bar on many fronts! I would love to get this card for my next upgrade (which has to happen soon) just I am afriad that is touch out of my price range (guess I should have saved up my buyjbmoretoys fund before I bought the house). And in case anyone feels sorry enough for me I can provide paypal info for donations :)

Again major F' Kudos to NV for this one!

What an amazing card. I've been very outspoken against nvidia high-end cards since nv30, and even with 6 series my opinion that they were 2nd best to ATI did not change. Heat/noise issues (nv30-35), poor mipmap boundry filtering (nv30 on), texture/anisotropic filtering optimizations, yada yada. All of that has been silenced today. Nvidia truly put out a great product. I don't see much opportunity for ATI to beat them this round. R600? Meh, show me G80.

PS: Did anyone notice how damn efficient the architecture is? Look at SLI scaling, look at AA scaling, look at rez scaling. R580 crossfire should have higher peak theoretical throughput, but almost always loses out. Amaaazziing.

I doubt they'd replace a flagship product without a reason. I'd expect a simple clock boosted card with GDDR4 if the X2800XT gets anywhere near the 8800gtx. Getting sort of disappointed with ATI, they're giving the nVidia a real advantage with these long delays between competitor launches. They're essentially ensuring that they play second fiddle.

G81 probably being the 80nm and slightly clock boosted G80? At least that's what I expect. Though I'd be pretty surprised to see it, if so I might think of it as a silent refresh and possibly them not boost the clock at all.

Do you think we'll see any 65nm gfx chips before the tail end of 2007?

I'd like to see what the R600 has to offer before i make judgements like that. But, the G80 surely is a monster and i (like probably most people here) definitely didn't expect such a beast from Nvidia. Seems like it's going to be pretty difficult to top the G80, especially with the margins needed if the products is released 3+ months later.

With the G80, the only reason I can see people waiting for the R600 is brand loyalty.

Nvidia seems to have covered all the bases as far as I am concerned. If only I had the money to upgrade to a new system, I would essentially get the G80 right now.

Wake me up when R600 comes out. Bar from a few new features, I guess we could say. G80 been there done that. Shame really.

I agree with another poster. They are essentially playing second fiddle to Nvidia.

I cant wait to see what they will bring out for the 2nd gen card of DX10. Everything turned on and 60 min with 2560xXXXX or whatever the resolution is lol. Im guessing, if I go SLI I will need to upgrade my monitor as well lol!

I'd like to pop in a quick question:-

UK retailer overclockers.co.uk states (in bold) that in order to run the 8800 series in SLI you absolutely have to have a 32x PCI-E mobo, amongst other things. Here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/8800_Series.html.

Any truth in this? Or will it just be a case of a performance bottleneck when using two 8x PCI-E lanes, perhaps something one might not even notice when using a 1280*1024 display...

    Thanks.

You probably already know this, but highest I've seen it Digit-Life's 8xAA (TMAA) #s in their "HQ" tests.
