    A bit pointless now, I've beaten the game, and without split screen coop have no intention to go back to it.

    So it was in there all along? Must have been a deliberate bork just as teh UT3 motionblur. You know a "console got this that PC version aint got...lalala" shit.

    THough playing the game and it got good gameplay and runs sweet even on a7900GT. Cant complain at 1280*1024 16xAF vsynced @ max and almost constanty smooth (small dips in cutscenes) for that PC. Obviously the 8800GTX or both "rapes" it.

    I'm surprised it took months for someone to monkey with the .ini files. :p Or maybe it isn't surprising, and it says something about the number of PC users with surround sound that have also got Gears of War.

    I don't have the game - what were the variables that changed?

    Is the fix just for X-Fi users or any audio setup? Come to think of it, was the problem only for X-Fi users or every audio setup?

    Some of us were monkeying with the .ini files back when the game came out, copying settings from other UE3 games and such. It just took until this month for someone to get it right.

    AS for what changed, WarEditorUserSettings.ini's ALAudio.ALAudioDevice section by default was simply:

    UseEffectsProcessing=True
    DeviceName=Generic Software

    If you read the link I posted above you can see what has been added. Having played some I have found it still isn't perfect though, the position on some some voices in cutsenses is wrong, and the pre-recorded cutscenes are just stereo. However, at least gameplay has proper surround sound now, and I'm going to toy with the settings some more to see if the remaining issues can be fixed.

    And no PJ, out of the box the game is limited to stereo sound output, regardless of what hardware or software you use.

    Unfortunately I can't keep changing the time on my puter (I have several SQL servers running for starters).

    This hasn't been a good week for G4WL (going to post a new thread about a "new" problem in a few mins).

    I say we start a campaign... in order to make up for it, EPIC have to port Gears 2 to the PC :D

    Obviously the reason that the certificate is there in the first place is because of pirates so clearly this fuckup is ultimately the fault of pirates which just further justifies both the delayed port to PC & its evident consolitis, pirates pirates pirates :lol::razz:

    The funny thing* is: If you use a "no-cd" patch (= manipulated startup.exe), you are still affected by this problem. So it doesn't matter, what version you have (pirated or a proper license): You can't play GoW on PC (ok, there is a temporary fix for this).

    *The whole situation is so sad, that only thing you can do is laughing about.

    The Gears port has been a rather sad situation from the start. Great game, weak port.

    I dunno I thought the port was really well done. Then again I never had any problems with it. Well until this whole certificate fiasco.

    And the added content was really nice. Has X360 gotten the new content as DLC yet?

    Regards,
    SB

    Until this, my only problems were two instances of disappearing saves which had me replay about half a level each time. Still, I wouldn't say the port was "really well done". It's missing split-screen coop which is a big letdown for me, especially considering the huge coop focus of the game. Overall though, it still is miles better than most ports.

    If you mean the extra five maps with the Brumak fight, I don't believe so.

    Yeah, aside from this I haven't had any problems with it. Improved graphics, good performance, extra content... seems like a decent port to me.

    On the other hand, I agree with Richard that the lack of split screen is dissapointing.

    Gears is really the minimum bar we should expect from a port. Unfortunatly by todays standards, its one of the better ones.
