I don't know ya'll I'm not digging the moniker. It's almost like labelling something for a console. Why can't microsoft leave it as "PC" instead of trying to brand it? It's not like there's an assurgence of Linux or Mac OSX games flooding the market (which wouldn't be a bad thing at all).

    What's ya'll opinions?

You need a three-letter acronym man! If you don't have your own TLA, the internet will not talk about you! Perceived relevance is the key!

    Yo talkin' 'bout what dawg?

I see Games For Windows, I assume we're discussing how stupid it is?

Most games don't even work properly on Windows anyway, why bother branding it.

I somehow associate "Games for Windows" with Minesweeper.

I would probably go with the simplest answer, it's "Games for Windows" because Microsoft can trademark it and control how it is used, not to mention it reinforces the need for a Microsoft product.

What about it's game for Windows because it doesn't run on a platform (PC) but on a specific OS (Windows) ?!

Given the current state of PC gaming this can only be a good thing. What's the whining about?

Are these games that Vista will automagically recognize and put into that special games folder?

The installer's supposed to default there, but I'd be surprised if most publisher's don't allow the option of manually changing the install location.

No Vista is just another in a long line of version names - 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP etc. It is still Windows Vista.

Yeah, "most games don't even work properly".

Thank you, you took a dump on the thread to end it early.

Regarding the name: Well of course, it's MS's way to differentiate their OS from others - no reason to wait until OSX has 10% marketshare to drive home the fact that Windows is the best OS for games. It's not just a marketing title though, games that get the moniker must have specific features - such as easy install, widescreen support, etc.

More attention from MS for games on PC is good. Who gives a flying turd if the name doesn't roxors your boxors.

    Mixed feelings about this.

The idea of the major player in pc platforms taking an active interest in games for its platform should obviously help gamers in the long run. But my last experience with a ms branded game (dungeon siege 2) was not good - crashes which corrupted the save game files, and an update patch which didn't work unless you had already created a character in the game (although no documentation stated this). I know gas powered games wrote it, but if that is the level of quality control that ms are happy with to let a game carry their brand name, I'm not (currently) impressed.
