This sounds like a good sign of it coming soon. :)

But... as he said similar things about this time last year, I'll believe it when I see it on the shelves.

Yeah, it's not like we can trust him.
And Vivendi. When did CS:CZ go gold? When did it retail?
If it gets here, good, right now I have something else to wait for.

I believe "days" is a typo. It's meant to say "decades".

 Yeah.. possibly "days" was a typo. But "decades" ??

Come on, Kiler. Let's be realistic here. I say "months"! 16 months is perfect time for christmas 2005!

I hope their firewall, antivirus protection, and hacker-proofness is all up to snuff.

We'd hate to have the source code 'stolen' again.

That was truly evil. I love you. :D

Well, "finishing bugfixing" and "shipping the game" are two things. But I wouldn't mind HL2 coming in September or October, really.

[joke] Guys I have stolen the source code of HL2 but unfortunately it has some bugs which I have to fix before I let you have it. I think it will take me, well...15 days before I fix all of them. [/joke]

Wait, if you discover new bugs every day, how can you know how many bugs there are total?

    *eats another donut*

Wait. It all makes sense now. Two weeks!

Com eon guys, no need to be so cynical :) Well, maybe there is...

Anyway... the statement wasn't just a ploy on Valve's part to steal some Doom3 thunder - it was an emailed reply direct to a fan who asked what the state of affairs was.

and this only talking about an estimate to get to Release Candidate 1. I'm sure there's plenty of time between RC1 status and AOTS (Actually On The Shelves (tm)) for us to finish Doom3

Given the appearance of CounterStrike:source on Aug 10th, you can maybe tone the vapour-ware accusations too

Plenty of room on my hard drive for both games.

    Mine too.

On a side note...what disturbs me most about the headline of this thread (headline came from the original blurb on hl2world,) is that Gabe did NOT say HL2 will be "complete" in 16 days or anything like it.

So when Aug 7 passes and there's no announcement that HL2 has gone "gold", there will be zillions of kids bitching and moaning at valve for "lying to them"...

Sigh...and people wonder why devs don't like to speak out much...

Absolutely. But I actually hope that I will have good time to play Doom III, before I get into all the buzz about Half-Life2 going Gold. Late September will be a plenty fast release for me!

Well sadly I don't think I'll be playing either till late fall. I'm not a fan of playing through the same SP game twice so I'll wait till after my fall upgrade to tackle Doom and HL2 (if it's out by then).

Also plenty of room on the internet for people who've never developed even a "hello world" program to whinge about stuff they haven't the faintest clue about.

Everybody + dog have opinions about hl2 these days it seems. Heck, can't all these complainers go bash on something that makes a bit of sense, like why DN4E is still in development limbo for example... ;)

You're just pissed that their new firewall is keeping you out.
