To those of you with a PS3 that really would like to use a mouse with your FPS games I have some info that may not be well known. The Frag-FX by Split Fish. http://www.splitfish.com/

I just got mine in today from Frys.com. I would take some pics but the wife is in California atm with our lovely Digital camera & I am here in Florida without it. So next best thing would be to post some links to reviews.

Mine looks exactly like the one in the IGN review. So how does it work I am sure you want to know. That's a good question. I won't know myself till later. I have to go pick up my Twin boys from school in about 15 minutes & then help them with homework. But I will post later on how well it works. If anyone else has one it would be interesting to see what they think about it.

Be back later with my short opinion. BTW this opinion will be based on whatever FPS demo's I can download from the PS3 store. I don't own any PS3 FPS games yet.

Resistance is the demo that I would go for then ...

And hey, what do you know, it is true - you can actually type inside the box when you are using 1080i/p. 720p does work just a tiny bit better on my 768p tv though so I hope they will get that working too eventually. It also seems a little sluggish, but that could also be my old weird PS2 keyboard that I got ages ago, but that is small and has the right color. ;)

Ok. I haven't got to really use this thing yet but here is why. For some odd reason the left joystick deal only seems to move left & down. Now maybe this is an issue with the demo I was trying it on but it does the exact same thing in the OS menus. Its looking like I have a defective turd here.

However I tried this thing out with Jericho & the mouse part was awesome. I will try RFoM when its finished downloading but I think I got a defective turd, so an RMA will most likely be in my future.

Not sure about the demo but the full game allows you configure just about everything about the controls, so that should help you test things.

Its looking like its a defective part. No matter what I try so far I just can't get anything but left & down on the pads joystick. But man the mouse was great. Its a shame this thing isn't fully working.

Greetings,

I would suggest you contact SplitFish tech support at beta@splitfish.com, which you can get a link for a firmware update that can fix the issue you are having.

Talked to someone at SplitFish yesterday on the phone & they said that the Firmware update wouldn't have fixed my issue. So it looks as if I got a defective FragFX. However I did find out that Walmart sells the FragFX as well as Frys.

Lastly. I have a XFPS Pro that I was actually going to return but it seems ConsoleSource isn't ever going to give me a RMA number much less answer my calls or RMA ticket request. So I decided I might as well try it. It works fairly well. Not true mouse support but for me it was still better then the controller.

Finally got a working Frag-FX today in the mail. This thing is pretty easy to learn & the mouse works far better then either versions of the XFPS deals I have for the 360. If anyone is interested in playing there existing PS3 FPS games with mouse action, the Frag-FX works very well.

I've had this for 2 weeks. It's heaps better than the PS3 controller that's for sure, however the mouse is not a patch at all on a decent PC mouse and it's too small. The left "nunchuck" controller actually works really well surprisingly. The setup is actually fairly decent on COD4.
For comparison I bought a PC version of COD4 and ran into into my Fujitsu 58EBb series plasma and played on it using a Logitech G5 mouse and this was on a completely different level to the fragfx mouse.

I don't think CoD4 is a good game for the Frag-FX due to the auto aim when using the iron sight. The auto aim pretty much makes the controller a pretty decent way to play. Yes the mouse is a bit on the small side & its not a 2000+ DPI mouse but its certainly far better for a mouse player then the controller is. I tried the RFoM demo & got a heck of a lot further with the Frag-FX then I did with the controller. Was great for RFoM. I would like to see a higher quality Frag-FX in the future, or even better, real KB/M support across the board for PS3 FPS games. Although I won't hold my breath for the latter.

I did try the Frag-FX for CoD4 as its the only FPS game I have at home. It was a lot easier for me to move & look around but I haven't spent a lot of time playing the game with the Frag-FX yet.

I remapped the keys aswell using the software, which is pretty sweet. Knife kills are so much easier on the fragfx, just hitting the middle mouse button. COD4 is hella fun with this thing on the PS3, and my PS3 is really clocking in the hours now instead of being used as an expensive doorstop.

Edit: I have to say though that I have had some really bad problems with updating the firmware from 2.00 to 2.20. However the tech support at splitfish (dennisD or something) have said they will send me a new one.
