Formula 1 - 2018 Season

Just read an article and was surprised to find out Renault does not have the "extra power mode" that Ferrari and Mercedes do. Does this disadvantage translate into an "off-the-line sprint" or "top-end speed" disadvantage?
It translates to just lower power all over, but it is especially in Q3 where it is evident. Except now Ferrari have some secret sauce which Mercedes doesn't have and nobody understands what or how they do it. The FIA says they are happy that Ferrari isn't breaching any regulations. The Ferrari development has been described as cramming 2 years of incremental improvements into one update to the power unit.

You're missing the point. He didn't choose to go down pit entry and then leave it again to gain an advantage (What Kimi did). He would have been better off if he didn't start to go down pit entry. The entire sequence of events left him, at best, in the same position he was in before. It was against the rules, so he got a reprimand to warn him that it isn't acceptable. But given the circumstances where it was provoked by someone over the radio shouting "In! Out! In!", he didn't have even whole seconds to decide what to do. Now he's been given the reprimand I would expect a stronger penalty if he does the same thing again.
Seriously?
Kimi crosses the line few meters too late > he crossd the line to enter pits and penalty is fine
Hamilton goes almost all the way in to the pits > "he didn't choose to go there"!? Of course he did, he drove there no matter if the radio was confusing, no-one forced him there or anything like that, he gained around 10 secs if not more from cutting back to track. Next you're probably gonna suggest that if Hamilton chooses to drive every chicane "straight" instead of track that he didn't mean to drive there and "didn't gain an advantage" so it's ok?

Force India has gone into administration but will complete the weekend in Hungary.

IMO, this is Vijay Mallya's fault for demanding too much money for the team. It would be a disgrace if this team disappeared from the sport.

The more interesting part is that Sergio Perez, one of their own drivers, is behind calling for the bankruptcy
There has been rumors for a while now that Lawrence Stroll might buy Force India, which would obviously earn Lance a spot in the team

He probably hasn't been paid. Kimi wasn't paid at Lotus and was probably close to sue.

He crossed in to the pit entry deliberately to gain an advantage. The only reason he was in the pit lane was to gain an advantage in his lap time, knowing that he never intended to enter the pits. The only reason he was on that piece of track was because he thought it would improve his speed on the straight. He gained time over his rivals by doing so, hence the penalty. Kimi was also in violation of an event-specific addition to the rules because of just how high speeds were at that circuit. Charlie Whiting himself has said that while the two incidents seem similar, they are different.

Hamilton goes almost all the way in to the pits > "he didn't choose to go there"!? Of course he did, he drove there no matter if the radio was confusing, no-one forced him there or anything like that, he gained around 10 secs if not more from cutting back to track.
Hamilton entered the pits with every intention of pitting. There was a confused pit message, he panicked and left the pit lane. He did so safely, under safety car conditions. He gained no position relative to competitors. He gained no meaningful time vs staying out on track.

Next you're probably gonna suggest that if Hamilton chooses to drive every chicane "straight" instead of track that he didn't mean to drive there and "didn't gain an advantage" so it's ok?
If you can't tell the difference between what I'm saying and that scenario, then perhaps you should try a different sport. I'm not suggesting that Hamilton didn't gain an advantage because he didn't intend to be there. You seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that I'm "for" a specific driver. I'm not. Replace Hamilton with any other driver and I'd be making the same points. The only difference is that you wouldn't have started the criticism in the first place. The reason that, over most of a decade, we *keep* having discussions about Hamilton is because *you* think literally every thing he does should result in him being disqualified.

Save the skin on your fingers cjo, not worth it.

Will be interesting to see him square away Hamilton being much faster than Bottas in the same car, and Kimi in a better one during qualifying.

Kimi's last lap was ruined by being behind a Haas, the track was getting quicker every second so he might have had enough to do a faster lap than Hamilton, or then not, we'll never know

This quali makes for quite an interesting race tomorrow, at least on paper!
Few cars out of position, but hard to overtake, safety car almost guaranteed and washed track before the race!

Not sure if correct, but apparently Kimi's last laps first sector was 0.3 sec faster than anyone else so far, but then he got hit by Haas's sprays and couldn't improve further, losing the lap

Superb from Lewis, showing how it's done in both the wet and the dry. :D

Certainly a shame for Bottas, but he was always going to have to cover Ferrari's #2 driver.

Yep. Toto confirmed Bottas is nothing more than a second driver by calling him a wingman.
If you take it out of context, he also clarified he meant Bottas drove like perfect "wingman" in this race, and that the team has 2 drivers who can still win the championship with no preference over the other

Clarified as in "I need to cover my ass because while Bottas is most definitely the second driver, it doesn't work very well for PR".

But you keep telling yourself otherwise, the facts speak for itself.

Oh and where are your rants about Bottas crashing into into others? You are always very quick to judge other drivers.
