LaptopVideo2Go have their hands on a Forceware 100-series driver for G80 and Windows Vista. Cue the rejoicing (at least from us), despite obvious pre-release and unofficial status.

No word on performance or compatibility just yet, other than SLI isn't available. Grab the 32-bit or 64-bit version depending on your Vista variant, and let us know how you get on in the forums.

Well, Geo is generally happy for all 8800 owners, yes. Provisionally, at least. Leaked drivers may or may not have all kinds of ugly problems in them, and we haven't heard about these yet too much from RL installs (I saw one guy at nvnews).

I have a personal dillema now, however. I'm sort of between Vista installs at the moment. And waiting for my friend at Microsoft to score me goodies. If I install now will my MS guy deliver before I hit the 30 day must activate? Or will I have to burn an install key for another colleague that would not be very nice to do for such a short term situation?

Decisions, decisions. :???:

Just took out my 6800GT and refitted the 8800GTX.
Spent the last 30 minutes or so playing Race. Performance seems good and they appear to have fixed some issues I was having with the 6800GT in Vista and 8800GTX in XP where the system would hard lock which I'd put down to the motherboard (even X1900's were causing the system to reboot when fully loaded) which is interesting.

Unfortunately still no D3D10 entry points in this release.

What do you mean exactly? I get hardware acceleration for D3D10 codes.

With this driver?

In this case the DDK documentation is not longer up to date. It states that a D3D10 compatible user mode driver needs an OpenAdapter10 entry point. This entry point is missing on this build.

Yep, with this driver, on both Vista x86 and x64. Which .dll are you looking in?

OK my fault. Nvidia have build two separated user mode drivers. I have only checked the wrong once.

There's a new .dll structure for the usermode driver that threw me off this morning while looking for the DDIs, before I installed. So it looks like you just missed it by accident, but it's there

Normal human being: "I think I'll run something and see if it works"
Demirug/Rys: "I think I'll deconstruct the driver and see if I can find the entry point"

ooh, goodie...

I'd like to try my software on some real hardware/drivers before it gets published - anyone got any speculation on production/official drivers being out inside of the 3-4 weeks?

Cheers,
Jack

All indications are that a 100.5x+ driver will be released before or on Jan 31st.

Right, guess I should finally place my order for an 8800 then. Nvidia could've had my money a long time ago if they'd of played nice with drivers - not even registered developer status helped

I assumed they were holding back the drivers for whenever ATI's contender hit the market - a nice secondary shot from the 8800 as it were?

Well, when you're press and a developer looking for some help, it's twice as hard to get assistance with coding efforts sometimes

I think the reason for the delay is just one of time and priorities, rather than any effort their competition is undertaking. The driver's simply not been ready enough for release, and I know they're working massively hard on getting something out this month.

Well, if nothing else I'll attest that they are safe for doing a 32-bit Vista install, and getting decent NV control panel stuff and multi-monitor support (2x2405 in my case). Haven't tried any 3D with them.

Mind sharing - or new link

I guess MS wasn't happy about the release... anyone have any other sources for the 100.30 driver (specifically x86)?

Gracias!
