When the image quality approaches the level of what is seen in those pics, the animation and the dynamics of the world also become more important.

Imagine those pics with jerky, unbelievable animation, characters who turn around like they were on some rotating platform... as if they by some magic just suddenly appear facing the other direction, or if they need to face another direction, they make a weird comic u-turn.
And a world where most things remain still (a flickering candle or torch does not a world alive make).

Those pictures need a wind blowing in the trees, not a repeating animation where the trees and shrubbery just cycle a few frames of swaying, but a more realistic varying degrees of wind and direction... 'gushes' (is that a correct word?) of wind, and rain that is not falling to ground as if the raindrops were pearls of lead.

This gen you can still get away with cartoony animation, but if next gen is even the level of this, the hardware should be capable of more than just displaying pretty polygons at high resolution and 30fps ;)

^^ Agreed on animation. And i think once Wanda (or whatever ICO's sequel is called) comes out, everyone will have to rethink the animation and overall presentation in their games. Seen what ICO did with the limited resources the team had, i can't imagine what will come out of Wanda.

Well it was a port of a game that really needed a geforce 4 / 8500 lvl hardware to run well .

IT was ported from that mind set to a geforce 2.5 and a celron 733mhz chip with a total of 64 megs .

What did u expect. This title looks like its being developed from the ground up for xenon / pc performance. As should most pc centric games due to come out in 2005 and later

Well in terms of fillrate i'm pretty sure its geforce 2 lvl power . Morrowwind is a lot of open areas to fill .

I agree that its vertex and pixel shader power is geforce 3 + power

I'm a non-us resident so scans are the only way for me to read that article.

I've been a fans of the elder scrolls for years and not being able to have access to this article is killing me! Please, i have to see this!!

go to gamestop and pick it up., it's a good read and the pictures are amazing., the subscription is only $10 for 10 months i think., so., you might as well get that instead of just buying one magazine..

the game looks killer., but, i'm going to keep my expectations to a minimum., only because the mention of making the game appeal to a broader audience., that usually means., dumbed down.. lets hope not.. i loved every aspect of all the other elder scrolls games.. and especially elder scrolls 3.,
