Regarding low polygons, read our interview.

Regarding shaders, read this news post of ours, the bit about how his team have experimented with one of his late feature additions. No, he didn't state an average scene will feature how many shaders (much less how long the shaders are) but it is safe to assume that there will be a sufficient number of shaders at any one particular scene and not very long ones at that. I'll assume most of the game is indoors and given the type of environment the game is set in, we could see some performance slowdowns where there are smoke or steam from burst pipes or some such.

This thread has become a bit boring so I'll just try and give it some spark.

WRT the DOOM3 benchmarking article that this thread is based on, can anyone tell me if, based on the contents of the article, Kyle actually got those benchmarking data from his own hands-on benchmarking session at id's office, or if the benchmark data were given to him so that he can write this article?

[edit]Note that I'm not querying the authenticity of the data, which I know is accurate.

One nitpick : Please try to be smart when quoting other people's post. I hate seeing multiples of the same image.

Better yet: refrain from posting massive pictures like that. Post links rather than screwing up the forum and wasting the source websites' bandwidth.

    Many thanks, Reverend! :D

    So my take is:

    • *Obviously, Dave's got too many irons in the fire to actually enjoy the game, however he will check it out when he's got a minute or two.

*Dave's personal system has a ATi 9800PRO AIW which suites his needs (At the moment), even though the test rigs are the latest and greatest, at the end of the day... they are still just that, test rigs only.

    Helps a bunch, thanks. :D

From that and a few other comments he made on the same page, it seems he witnessed the making of these demos firsthand.

I have the Doom3 E3 leak, the models looks better in that early build then what I see here..if you want to see with your own eyes let me know via PM

I also agree with Dave about Doom 3 sales, people are blowing the Doom 3 name way out of proportion. The local EB manager is a buddy of mine, and when Quake 3 was released it was the #1 game returned, just due to the high hardware requirements... and that was when PC gaming was popular. No multiplayer, especially the removal of Co-op for PC yet shipping with the X-box makes the choice easy. Buy a $200 X-box and play it in High Defination 5.1 Dolby with a buddy co-op vs a $4000 PC with a $500 graphic card by youself.

I'm sure you meant "making of the benchmarks" instead of "making of the demos".

That aside, that doesn't tell us the benchmark data in that article is based on a hands-on benchmarking session by Kyle/HardOCP.

PS. I don't mean to make a fuss out of this. Just wanted to stir up some conversation. I know what happened, of course. I think Kyle worded his article carefully.

My fault. When I said "Myst" I was lumping in simular games into that including the SIMs (and I know they are not that simular) but what the do have in common is they are both not a 1st shooter. So thats my fault (and no not trying to same myst = sims)

I can't show sharply enough how cheap is your shot "defending" JC with a similar shot from HL2 without pictures.
