If you were a regular in the forums you'd have noted that much of that had already been answered recently.

    Happy browsing. :D

What's the main reason why they see little future in it? Running into difficult to solve bottlenecks of the graphics cards?

Btw, seems that D3 is very light in shaders. Is that in any way a consequence of stencil shadowing? Shaders seem to me to be the big graphics revolution in the last year, so I don't understand why D3 seems to ignore them.

Could you qualify someone else to answer the question then? Maybe just agree that they are correct in there findings is all?

Anyone up for the answer(s) to the question(s)? Thanks, I would, as I am sure as other non-regular(s), would appreciate such knowledge. :D

Thanks for your participation, Dave. :)

Actually, I had thought that title was surpassed by The Sims franchise not too long ago.

But, I'd be willing to bet that DOOM3 will be the best-selling M-rated game of all time (well, since the ESRB has existed....).

The big difference is the availability of integer precision in NV_fragment_program.

No way. DOOM3 will use a shader for every surface. I don't know how much less you can ignore shaders than that....

As to how complex the shaders in the game will be, that we'll have to find out. It really all depends upon how much JC decided to modify the shader interface for the artists since his statements on the engine a couple of years ago.

They are fairly intensive in for both fill and vertex rates, they are not very good for outdoor scenes and they aren’t good for soft shadowing.

As for not being shader intensive – yes and no. Its try to say that there aren’t actually that many shaders (the lighting model being one, and probably the material system being another – not sure what others they use) but you shouldn’t confuse “volume of shaders in the game codeâ€￾ with “amount of pixels that require a shaderâ€￾.

Nope. All I am trying to say is that the game just does not appeal to me. And I'm pretty sure that I am not the only one.

But the poster I replied to made it sound like Doom3 is the holy grail of gaming which every gamer has been waiting for... which is obviously a very subjective opinion.

Have you guys seen the Gamespot screenshots of the game. Although texture detail and shadows are wonderful the models seem to be low polygon count and everything is angular. Each head has three or four 'points' on them some curved flourexcent bulbs look horrible.

I just hope the low polygon models were from older builds and not the final game otherwise I will not pony up for it until it hits the bargain bin.

They have been saying for a while the models are low poly. Its something you should only notice when things aren't moving really though due to the high res normal maps.

Those pointy heads are pretty damn noticeable to me unless its moving so fast its a blur.

Still, nothing new here - we know this since the beginning: low poly mod + high res textures etc + full lightning = D3, that's it.

That Gamespot screenshot looks better than anything that's ever been on my hard drive.

What's pretty evident is that some people are aligning their Doom3/HL2 preference with their IHV preference. Both games are impressive in their own right and hopefully I will be able to enjoy both on whatever hardware I decide to purchase.
