I suppose it is possible, though I didn't think they were that far along yet in the rewrite. From what I remember, wasn't Humus hired to work on OpenGL for ATI?

What does "ATi's v8.05" translate to in some language I would understand though Baron? :|

    Durrrr....

    That's 8.03. There is no officially available 8.05, but I must assume it's a 4.8 beta/candidate/somethingorother.

    So no, nobody knows.

8.05 are basically beta 4.8 or 4.9 drivers.

Nah, they just hired Humus for his name.

They totally pamper him there, he's got this sweet-arsed office and this "extry helpful" bit of eye-candy serving (servicing him?) as his "assistant" on the days he feels like coming in. ;)

Nah. No chance - it'll take another several weeks. I expect around early September.

After reading that thread I was thinking, it would be kinda cool to have Two 6800 512MB's in SLi. 8) I mean, even though you may not get a combined 1GB of video memory... it would still be.. freaking unreal!

So the circle is now complete, we have all the ATi fans holding out a final hope for some miracle drivers.... :?

I doubt it - driver version number of Catalyst not unconditionally follows Radeon driver version numbers.

Gosh, yes, there was a whole--day, was it?--after some website somewhere reported rasterizer pixel differentations it could not account for and said "What is this?", before ATi officially explained what "this" was and explained exactly what it was doing with its trilinear optimizations. Wow, what deceit that is! Imagine ATI taking a *whole day* (or even two) to answer someone's questions--shame. Heh...;)

I Think if you'll check back you'll see that nobody knew anything *definitive* about ATi's trilinear optimizations prior to ATi providing the detailed information about it through public statements. That's what I remember, anyway. Since then, however, that hasn't stopped the "public" from making loud noises about it even while failing to find any detriment to IQ resulting from it (which is how a perfect optimization is supposed to behave), and now even Carmack says that even though he can't *see* anything wrong with it he still objects to it--on general principle I guess...;)

Yes, that's the sort of "clear perception" that often comes from listening to the "public"...;)

I was thinking 3-6 months since these Beta 4.9s dont seem to be rewrite in them....and the 4.9s won't be out for 6 more weeks so......?

*Edit* Well since it seems the cat verion numbers don't always follow the driver versions they could of been the 4.8Betas and if thats the case then it could be here as soon as the 4.9s then (although it could still be the 3-6Months like I was thinking...)

But you forgot the other key part to that quote after the ,. Unless you know what you are looking at. Evidently JC knows what he is looking and and can see the difference.

So what I would be curious to see is if regular blokes like us can tell the difference. Most likely not becuase 99% of us consumers don't have the luxury of having 2 $500 vid cards to compare the difference to and see if "we" can see a difference.

    Something like that... :?
Although IMO there's a good chance they'll roll out some magical 'D3-only fix' in August, well before their brand-new driver's debut...

What 4.9? I don't see any fact about v4.9 anywhere...
