It's a polarizing game. Some people LOVE it, others HATE it. It's like Assassin's Creed. If you loved the free-running enough to look past all the repetition, AC was a great game. If you got hung up on the repetition, it sucks. Likewise, if you get sucked in by the 'simulation', you may just overlook everything else.
Heh, AC's my next game on the list to play. I'll let you know I just managed to finish C&C3 (took me a while to work out i'd finished it - if you have, you know what I mean), and i've been working though Lost Planet again so cant be far from the end of that. I recently picked up GTA4 and the temptation to play that is great... but i'm gonna stick to the plan and at least finish LP and AC first. Gears can wait since I already played that on the xbox but LC and AC need to be completed! And as for the games i'll get at xmas.... oh man, what are these devs doing to me!
I just got I-Fluid. Not an expensive game, and lots of fun. It's different. I guess it's great for people who like games such as Lemmings, Portal, The Incredible Machine and such. Makes good use of PhysX too
Heh, that sounds pretty cool, I'm gonna download the free trial and give it a go later. I certainly enjoyed both Lemmings and Portal.
If absolutely nothing else, they should get our money for doing something that (to my knowledge) has absolutely never been done. The life of a drop of water? In my opinion, this is the epitome of the kind of thinking that game dev houses should be doing
Patch 1.2 has been released. Among other things, it adds proper support for widescreen! http://www.gamershell.com/download_37208.shtml
Directx 10 is messed up with my new card. The game stutters horrifically, reaching like 2 FPS unless I run the game with 9. It's terrible. When I installed the card at first with the factory drivers there wasn't an issue. It wasn't until I installed the latest Geforce drivers when I began encountering issues. I really hope they resolve this. According to forums the game runs at least 10 FPS faster running DX10.
Yep I can second that. I was amazed how much better the game runs under DX10 vs DX9 on my measly GTS640.
In DX10 it is on by default and cant be turned off. If you look in the settings file or log file it will show that HDR is indeed enabled. My settings in gamerprofile.xml reveals the follwoing for DX10 even though HDR is grayed out.
Thanks guys, yep running the benchmark and toggling between D3D10 and D3D9 shows HDR is unaffected. Unfortunately I cannot confirm the performance increase when using D3D10. I get a very pronounced perf drop with the following settings: General: Very High. All other settings set to High. 720x480, noAA, noVSYNC. DX9 Average Framerate: 14.78 Max. Framerate: 19.56 Min. Framerate: 13.08 DX10 Average Framerate: 12.26 Max. Framerate: 17.36 Min. Framerate: 9.79 These aren't the settings I play at with my lappy but I had to use these since using D3D10 requires everything set to High or better. My lowly 8600M GS probably isn't fast enough to benefit from D3D10. Oh well, it was worth a shot.
There's a benchmark?? I'll have to try and find that! I'm running at 1440x900 + 2xMSAA + 16xAF all at Very High. Gameplay performance seemed ok but i'll post the benchmark result once I find it.
Cheers, found it in explorer (I don't use the games explorer, just pin the games back into the start menu). Thats one hell of a benchmark tool, can't beleive I didn't know about it already. I've been testing performance via FRAPS and the opening scene of the game Using the benchmark, the difference between DX10 and DX9 is even more amazing than I thought. This game is absolutely the poster child for DX10 and Vista. If anyone still thinks Vista or DX10 ain't worth it, I strongly advise they take a look at this game. My results at Very High, 1440x900, 2x MSAA, 16xAF.... DX10: AVG: 36.18 MAX: 48.54 MIN: 29.9 DX9: Spoiler AVG: 19.71 MAX: 27.00 MIN: 11.66
