So nobody here has even so much as started it up yet? OR they have and it's just too good to exit and come talk to us about it I left my machine on today so it could start downloading from Steam whenever they turn it on. Wonder if it will be done downloading by the time I get home tonight...
Lol! They have pushed the consoles to the limits.... therefore no co-op. Not that it mathers for me but they could have done it easily for PC while still targeting medium-end.
Thanks for this. So... ...what does that have to do with me playing it on a PC? I tell you, I'm starting to think game designers all went to the same "Game Designing For Noobs" school.
Some experiences Ok, picked up Far Cry 2 at a shop in the Netherlands today. Actually you could already buy/get the game yesterday. Initial impressions: - Ubisoft did again a bad job on quality control. After I started the game first time, I ran in 800 x 640 mode. As soon you changed display settings, it would switch to a small window (640 x 480 pixels I think) with just black contents. Still sound. I solved this by manually changing the .xml file with the settings, but then it would still start in windowed mode. At the end I made my own short cut, skipped the launcher app and add some parameters to force the resolution I wanted. - So far I tweaked the settings to DX10, all settings on very high. Didn't try the impact of Ultra on my GTX260. - Game looks beautifully. No complaints. I would say it's definitely on par with Crysis. Maybe the vegetation in Crysis looks a little better. Textures look ok. Framerate at very high is very good, no signs of lag yet. - Yes, there's blood and spitting everywhere when you kill someone. I have no problems with this. Still much to explore.....
Still doesn't make sense. Online coop should be doable even on the consoles as there's no duplication of rendering, just one extra character and some net code.
install went okay...short 10 minutes...can't play...getting this: SecuROM™ has determined that emulation tools like 'Alcohol l20%' or 'Daemon Tools' are running. Please be informed that SecuROM™ protected applications will not work with such tools. * Please unmount your image, close these emulators, and insert the original disc in order to start the application. If the application still won't start, please send a SecuROM™ analysis file to support@securom.com (see Support Info section on how to prepare and send an analysis file). WTF? i killed everything, i even uninstalled DOS box and the nintendo 64 emulator i had (tried to play golden eye once) sheesh and i have tomorrow OFF! can anyone hep?
and they wonder why piracy is getting worse..... Anyway, it doesn't mean emulators as in the Ninetndo 64 one, it means Daemon tools, it emulates some protection things so most protection schemes these days look for it and stop the game working if they find it. Just do what it says, close Daemon tools make sure the service has stopped and try again.
i don't show daemon tools running...where do i look? is it just a registry setting? i never INSTALLED daemon tools, though as a UNIX sort, im familiar with the term in that context
Look in task manager. There's more than just Daemon tools that sets it off though do you have anything installed on your system that acts as a virtual drive? It might be just a protection fault anyway, I've heard of protections failing for something that isn't on your system.
Did you by any chance run a program like Process Explorer or such (even if you quit it)? If so restart your PC. Also check under Taskmanager -> Show -> Hidden devices -> Non Plug nPlay Drivers You could also enter system Properties -> Environment variabels -> add under System Variables Variable name: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices Variable Value: 1 This will show previously installed drivers that still are left in registry when selecting "show hidden devices" in taskmanager. Be carefull what you remove.
i assure you i am stripped down now. a registry thing? i got nothing running but enuf to do this and run a game.
If the worst comes to the worst, there is no doubt the (inevitable) no-cd crack available which will circumvent all the secure-rom issues by removing it from the game. It wouldn't be the first time that legitimate customers have had to resort to this sort of thing to play the games they bought.
Have you tried this yet? Well, playing devil's advocate here and all, but it's a bit more than that unless you want your A.I. to either completely ignore the second player or randomly switch targets in between game frames, among other things.
Lol! He got the game, he just needs the no-cd "patch" as a circumvent to his game startup porblems. After all he has a legit copy. No need to bittorent and spread the pirate copy to more pirate assholes.
