    Perhaps you could force your desired resolution with an ini tweak.

    Which perks confuse you?
    http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_perks
    They all seem mighty straightforward to me save for the cool ones like Mysterious Stranger :smile:

    As for health and ammo, I found it scarce at the beginning but ended up with so much I was selling rounds by the thousands and still had more than I could ever use throughout the course of the game. Maybe because I had the perk where you find more ammo and could one-shot nearly every enemy with

    Well, the skills and perks mostly just take a bit of patience. Which I understand can be in short supply when you just want to pay. But it is what it is.

    As for health and ammo, yeah, that's a major problem particularly the first time you play the game. It gets easier as you learn the ins and outs of the game, and as you progress further along. It also helps to make liberal use of VATS head shots to conserve ammo (and bear in mind that if you have crappy weapon skill, you have to get in close before the VATS hit % is decent).

    Thanks for that. I checked my ini settings and they are already at the settings you suggest. I do disable vista sidebar before playing any games already as well. For triple buffering i presume NVCP means nvidia control panel? I have an ATI card, from what I see there is only a triple buffer setting for opengl.

    I'm going to try disabling wait for vsync just to see what happens. Maybe the game is getting confused and waiting forever for vsync to happen, hence why my visuals freeze but the audio keeps playing. Worth a shot I guess.

    EDIT: Well that was fast, disabled wait for vsync, ran the game and visuals froze after 15 seconds of play. I guess that ain't it :( Tried running in windowed mode as well, it crashed in 6 seconds. Argh...

    Use FPS Limiter to cap at 30FPS and see if that helps.

    Have you tried to remove your config ini files to force the game to create new ones?

    Haven't tried that, I'll try it tonight. One thing I did try was to yank the network cable from the PC. That worked for a while, I was able to play for about 15 minutes, then the video froze again. Could have been a fluke I guess, but if not I suppose it may point to an issue with games for windows live, since it presumably does a bunch of network related stuff.

    Can u guide me on that one. I checked the "Fallout_default.ini" but couldn't find resolution settings anywhere. Though I tweaked some other stuff to up the graphics :wink: !

    Nebula, can u point me to what to edit exactly to force 1360X768 resolution?

    EDIT: Never mind, the option showed up magically now ! Strange :roll: !

    Just incase. In your Falloutprefs.ini file located at "...\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\..."

    iSize W=1440
    iSize H=900

    Change it to desired resolution. :smile:

    Odd...

    Still I strongly recommend using this tool, capping at around 45FPS and forcing vsync and triple buffering with D3DOverrider. Both my roommate and I suffered game-breaking mouse lag when vsync was enabled if we didn't use FPSLimiter. It also fixes the stuttering/frame skipping even when you have a solid v-locked 60FPS (see here and here and here and...).

    One of the best experiences I have had for years. The suspension of finding new locations and checking them out is superb.

    Game developers handed the game of the year award to Fallout 3. You can find the winners from VoodooExtreme.

    Personally I've been really interested in this game (I loved both Fallout 1 and 2) but for some reason I still haven't bought it. I suppose I'm waiting for some 50% deal on Steam.

    it's well worth the buy, although the rumored (confirmed now?) DLC that will remove the level cap will greatly enhance the game.

    Finally figured out the freezing issue with the game. Main clues were that the visuals would freeze but audio kept playing, implying a threading deadlock of some sort. The other clue was that just about everyone else having the same issue also had a quad core like me. The problem does indeed seem to be a thread issue but it only affects 3+ core setups, dual core runs fine. The fix is nicely described here:

    http://www.gamesforum.ca/showthread.php?t=377465

    The quick summary, in the fallout.ini, change this line:

    bUseThreadedAI=0

    ...to be:

    bUseThreadedAI=1

    ...then after that line add:

    iNumHWThreads=2

    This effectively forces the game to run as on a two core system. I haven't had a freeze since doing this, hopefully this will help someone else as well. Now I can get back to my Fallout 3 addiction :)

    Just a heads up. If you fidn yo uget random crashes inside or outside after adding texture packs then it might be the res. I have found that with my heavy config and large amount of textures that 4096x4096 textures makes the game prone to crash. With measly lastgen 2048x2048 res textures it is alright so it seems 4096x4096 or higher might make the engine crap out before VRAM is filled. God damn shithole and I who was planning on adding some 8096x8096 textures....

    And people would settle with the default 256x256/512x512 textures...uhhh *shivers*

    Just wondering what texture packs you use, Nebula? Atomicwasteband made a really good texture pack (don't have a link) that's not as high res as NMCs but it looks really good. He sticks very close to the originals but they look a lot better obviously.

    I'll find them and then I'll list them. But Megatown and Rivet City is from NMC. I think my I also used the landscape + rock pack from NMC. I'll check the rest out later. :)

    I'll see if I find the high-res armor texture pack to and some other ones. I also got a music mod with Fallout 1/2/3 tracks and I selected the ones I liked and put them in the category I felt was most suitable for them. So far my mod texture directory is 1.53GB. :D
