Just downloaded the patch. I'm still getting the missing game world problem. In fact, it has gotten worse. Now when I walk out the back of the saloon to the tutorial, I just see Sunny Smile lying dead beside her dog, also dead, at the bottom of some geometric hell.

At this point I've given up on Bethesda ever fixing this. Man, I've seen buggy games, but this is the first time in my life where I have to write off a game as a complete loss

Can you provide a screenshot of that? It sounds like a hell of a sight.

    Well, if you must see...

    Poor Sunny. Poor Cheyenne.

Poor Victor suffered the same fate.

I can actually see the Bighorners falling as I walk out the door.

"What's this thing coming toward me very fast? So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like 'Ow', 'Ownge', 'Round', 'Ground'! That's it! Ground! Ha! I wonder if it'll be friends with me? Hello Ground!"

    "Not again!"

I tried to be a catch in the rye for Cheyenne but it didn't work.

    Easy Pete.

Oh, man. The Witcher: EE did similar stuff to me on occasion.

I saw things that I swear would only be seen if I was tripping on LSD. I wish I had taken mroe pictures, and saved the ones I did.

    Edit: Thank you. :)

This game was made by Obsidian.

Whatever. If your name is on the box, you own it. I only know that I'm out forty bucks and have something that doesn't work jack.

Bethesda is the publisher. They probably funded development and pay for patches to be made. So you are right in that they do have some responsibility. But the end result is still a product of Obsidian and they just about always make buggy games. It's nothing new.

I got my Vegas upto date with patches and have rarely encountered bugs and they where all gameplay related. My copy is probably even less stable than others since I push the engine very hard with tweaked config aswell as force game to use more than 2GB of RAM so that it doesn't crash with tweaks and texture mods.

Maybe I am lucky but that goes for msot of my other games... I've had since I started playing on PC. :)

I think the international versions are screwy.

I beat it the other day with the new patch, didn't crash but I was nearly done with it when I applied it.
I'm going back and giving Fallout III a try now.

I have the central/eastern European version. It's slightly different I think, even though I picked English during installation, as patches usually are a few days later. Still, it can't be that different. The updates are still handled by Steam. Forty dollars here is like a hundred bucks states-side in terms of purchasing power. Sucks. Sucks. Sucks.

I haven't hit any bugs yet (knocks on wood), so I have to say this is game of the year for 2010. I love Obsidian's quest design and quality writing for NPCs.

I'm waking up the Fallout NV thread as I think I have have hit a game ending bug. I previous had issue where the ncr would just shoot me on sight for whatever reason even though their faction had no issue with me, and I can no longer complete that quest line. I tried dropping all my items in case something I was holding was irritating ncr npc's, but that didn't help. I also tried using the console to make me idolized by the ncr, and they still shoot me on sight. I still don't know why they do that but in any case, anyone else encounter this and know a way around it? The ncr quests are the ones I wanted to do, but I'm at a deadlock at the moment :(

So you're not wearing any faction's clothes, like Caesar's? Have you eaten any human flesh? Do you have that super mutant lady as a companion?

Ed-E can sometimes start shooting the NCR peeps for no good reason, that can set them off too.

Fake Edit: I found this, good luck!

Ahhhh thanks, that seems to be the bug I have. I have tried approaching Capt. Curtis with no items on me at all (I dropped everything) and while having used the setreputation command to make me idolized by the ncr, and that still didn't work :( Looks like the game still thinks I'm wearing some hated faction armor even though I'm not, so I guess I'll have to find armor from those hated factions and equip/unequip them as that wiki says, maybe that will fix it. I guess the thread title was right after all!

EDIT: Cool dude, that was it! I went back to my hotel and looked through my armor stash, and saw that I had Ceasar's Armor. I equipped/unequipped that along with some Boomer armor, and now I can go to Ncr areas without being shot into pieces. Thanks!

Thank you for replying with the fix! I'm very happy things worked out for you.

I'm currently using this texture mod: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38196

I guess it's not really a texture mod but I like the IQ and it's very easy to install and, I assume, uninstall. Unlike the port of those very high quality textures from that famous Fallout 3 texture mod. That's an awesome mod but it made my brain hurt to contemplate going through an installation.

I'm also messing with this addon: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37310

Very easy to install and remove. It's pretty basic but it's fun. The best part for me is that I ended up finding some normal locations that I'd missed.

Is there actually any proper texture mod for New Vegas? I know some people use Fallout 3 mods on it, but I don't want a mish mash of half new half old textures. Normally I don't do texture mods as I prefer to keep the game as the artists intended, but in Fallout's case I might make an exception...

Only massive mod I know of is the one for Fallout 3 that you alluded to.

The one I linked to is pretty benign and inoffensive.
