Game runs ok with the latest patch maxed out with 4x fsaa@ 1680x1050 on my 2.65ghz S939 opteron/ 2GB ram and oc'ed 4850, however, I get the occasional huge fps drop, especially when I bring up VATs, feels like perhaps my videocard is running out memory, as it does it far less then it did when I tried to run it with 8x fsaa.

Isn't that a problem with the engine? I had the same problem in FO3 and when I researched it a bit it seemed that vats + high aa means low fps for a lot of people. It is much worse in NV though. With aa on 8x I didn't really had much problems in vats with my 4870 but in NV, especially in opens spaces, vats just kills performance.

Apparently it is, I googled it a bit after making the post. Is this not something they can patch, seems like in a patch you claim fixes d3d performance you might want to fix the horrible vats lag!

I also just downloaded the patch and it indeed seems to fix performance issues including vats. But now I noticed everything looks blurry and there is a fair bit of bush popups I didn't had before. Am I the only one having this or others too? Maybe its because I used the modified dx9 dll and that disabled some effects? though I believe NV is just a dx9 game?

Well I haven't ran the game unpatched, so even with the latest patch it's lagging with vats.

Check the graphic options, when you take the DLL out of the directory they get reset, even resets the resolution.

Thanks. I totally missed the low resolution the game was set to. Very change as I actually looked at all the other boxes. Ghoul heads are exploding in a nice and crisp fashion again :)

I reinstalled Gothic 3, with the latest community patch a week ago. No guns, but it is the better game. And the scenery looks amazing.

Best open world game so far, IMO.

Wow, the 6850 is completely owned by the 5850 in NV... What the hell is going on there? o_O

the 5850 is the faster card, hence the confusion about the naming scheme

Yes, but generally the 5850 is not that far ahead of the 6850. Hell the 5850 is approaching twice the speed of the 6850 at 1080p. That is very odd...

This game appears to be mostly CPU limited on anything above a 6850/GTX4601GB. The i7-975EE only hits ~75fps avg, so those of us with mere mortal CPUs will likely fall short of the 60fps mark no matter the GPU.

Have you noticed the shift from 30fps as being playable to 60fps being playable ?

30fps should be playable, although not ideal. But the game looks really dated, and for example Far Cry 2 looks much better and runs about the same.

The 6850 is also barely faster than the 5830! Must be a driver bug or something.

Hmm, no surprise I guess since the founding partners of Obsidian created the the Fallout series I think.

Is anybody playing this on very hard? I'm finding it very hard. Even at level 30 with power armor and all the best weapons death claws and those cadazor things can still fuck me up pretty easily of I get swarmed.

Maybe the 6xxx series had MLAA enabled by misstake or other PP AA mode?

I guess that is why they call it very hard!

I just play normal, don't really feel like having to sleep and drink and stuff like that.
