I got a free promotional copy of the PS3 version. The messed up state the game is in is just unbelievable. I have at least one crash every 2 hours, I have myriads of graphics glitches (floating enemies/people, missing textures, weird flickering geometry), I can't complete 2 side quests already (because the people I'm supposed to talk to just aren't there), I just got a message that one my followers died, except I never recruited him. Never even met him actually. Vats is acting up constantly and if that wasn't enough already I also lost about 10 hours worth of progress due to corrupted save files.

shit that sounds horrible. I really think PC is the only way to go for games like this cause A) controls/graphics are better and B) if anything messes up wrt quests or companions or whatever you can always rely on the console to sort things out

So they bless the righteous with a slightly less bugged version of a game that to all intents and purposes still looks like ass, and in their endless generosity they allow you to fix it yourself. Your Gaming God is kind of a dick.

It's a shame really. I think there is a really cool game buried somewhere under that enormous pile of crap. A better game than FO3 actually. A lot less wasted space in New Vegas, and many quests are connected or tied directly to your reputation with the different factions. Really neat imo, because it gives your decisions a lot more meaning. There's usually more at stake than a bunch of experience points and some bottle caps, and you don't have to wait until the game's conclusion to feel the repercussions of your actions either.
Hardcore mode so far is more of a nuisance than a real challenge, though.

How do you mean crap? So far for me the game is good. only 2 crashes and that seemed to related to taking a certain path around a mountain. For the rest only some minor visual flaws like floating items but nothing that really bothers me after 10 hours or so.

However there are some things I don't like. For example sometimes I encounter a character that starts talking to me but than ends up shooting me right away. That is awkward because you basically have to kill them but that makes me wonder why and I wonder if maybe I did not lose out on a quest because of it.

Also I don't like how you can have good and bad rep. For me it doesn't serve a purpose. You either play good or bad and depending on that you will always end up killing whoever you don't team up with. That is the same as in Fo3 but the big difference is that now you won't be able to complete all quests in one play. That sucks becauseI spend over 120+ hours on Fo3 and NV will also be in the tens of hours and no way I'm going to do that twice or more just for some extra quests. For me games like this are way too long to play again.

The game does engage me more and more but I still don't like it as much as Fo3. Main problem is with the story. In Fo3 I really felt alone and felt I had to kinda save the planet. In NV I'm just in it for myself it seems.

I haven't got to the end but I'm playing as a good guy and I think that by helping the NCR I'm working to save civilization.

I'm not a zealot about it as it seems there are some choices that you can make that help other factions without really harming the NCR.

Helping the NCR affects one's quests. I found that out after reporting a successful mission and then immediately seeing several quests being marked as a failure.

I had the one crash so far in 20 hours. I think it was related to clicking the right and left buttons in succession as I was going into VATS. Why is it that I remember so many different crashes in different games simply from clicking right / left or left / right on the mouse at the wrong time? :-(

We’ve come up with solutions for the Xbox 360 save issue folks are reporting, along with a number of other issues being reported. We’re currently running final testing and certification on a comprehensive patch for all three platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), so we’ll have something available in the coming weeks. When we have more details, we’ll let you know. In the meantime, an incremental update for PC should be going up by early next

week that will fix the save corruption issues and problems with companions, as well as improve performance for NVIDIA users and resolve some issues reported with Havok.

From what I've been reading, this latest patch has introduced some new, nasty bugs of its own.

The patch says it "fixed severe performance issues with DirectX", but broke the old unofficial dll fix in the process.

I didn't do the dll, but my performance is no different.

Been in St. Louis all week and just got back, loaded the new patch and moved the dll file out of the directory, runs great. Used Fraps to check the frame rate, and it is actually gets a slightly better frame rate, and no stutter.
