    As I noted over there:

    http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1260045&postcount=44

    Apparently texture loading was an issue with FEAR and the ATI driver had a fix specifically for this. So there'll prolly be a fix for FEAR2.

    Some NVidia graphics systems are also suffering with this hitching, apparently.

    I have the same sort of hitching on a GTX260. Is there a way to monitor video memory usage in Vista?

    Is anybody else having trouble with the sound? For whatever reason, I can't get the sound to work aside from the intro.

    Yep I had the same issue. Uninstalling my sound driver in device manager, and then re-setting the PC forcing Windows to re-install it solved the problem.

    Thats using onboard HD audio in Vista.

    This game must just be particularly fickle when it comes to the sound driver as i've never encountered an issue like this before.

    So you had to uninstall the sound driver and then reinstall just to get the sound to work? That seems a little too excessive for just a demo, but thanks all the same.

    Yeah it was certainly a wierd one. It literally only took a couple of mins though (most of which was the re-boot.) I let Windows install the default driver so I didn't have to do anything with that part myself, it just happens automatically when you restart.

    FWIW I have onboard audio (ALC888) and had no problems whatsoever.

    My sound card is not onboard, so that's probably what the problem was. And I'm not using Vista, so it could not be a Vista compatibility issue. There is probably a conflict between my onboard and my PCI sound cards, but I'll double check as soon as I get home (I'm still currently at work).

    I would just try installing the latest drivers (unless your already on them).

    Also, check the readme as it does have some troubleshooting tips for no audio (one is upgrading the drivers).

    one thing that didn't change is the dialogue and voices of the enemy soldiers. Emotionless.

    - check status;
    - enemy sighted;
    - no fucking way;
    etc. etc.

    The telepathically controlled clones need to show more emotion?

    Hey, at least it's not that "I'm gonna burn your ass!" (or whatever it was) from FarCry. ;) That game sure had some angst-ridden slightly-off-on-the-English folks.

    It looks way too "soft" (due to the ambient occlusion?). Also the replicants are not as crazy and wacky as in FEAR. Clearly this game was made for the consoles in mind with the iron sight aiming, slower play speed, hit confirmation "X", etc. Although the action key (E button) and fire rate selection are welcome, though I will very much miss leaning :/ One major pro from the first is the sheer creepiness, which certainly is more so in the FEAR 2 demo than in the first game.

    I guess final judgement will wait until the final product comes out.

    "Space" to get to the menu, scroll wheel not working for intelligence descriptions, enormous font sizes and needlessly large GUI elements - these and nearly every damn consolized aspect of the game seriously drive me away from it. Its atmosphere is far too busy and its assets are too wildly varied in color; even the replicants themselves are colorful.

    For the original, often the sheer creepiness would be because nothing happens. In this, even the most tranquil of moments are bloated with sound, making even the most sterile environments feel busier than they actually are.

    This is not the FEAR I knew.

    All valid criticisms; the UI is especially irksome. Mouse wheel not scrolling is pure laziness. And where are my flashlight shadows?! :evil:
    I noticed that too. Wonder if the rest of the game will be as dense -- I suspect it will be since they're catering to the shoot-em-up console audience this time.

    At least the heart of the game (slow-motion pwnage) feels as good as ever.
