My only concern is that if the forthcoming ATi/AMD merge will impact daveb's career in ATi?

What, like the Intel/AMD merger from a few weeks before did?

Don't know if this was mentioned before but has somebody been identified to take over the helm of Dave's architecture reviews? I've criticized them in the past for the lack of competitive comparisons but they have been one of the most important resources for improving my understanding of 3D architecture in the last couple years. They will be sorely missed.

Officially, no. I've posted my guess though (Nick/Neeyik).

I think maybe you (and I) need to know what we really want from this site when it comes to such articles - to read/learn about any new architectures in a new card, or to see comparisons in a new card/architecture article.

Personally for me, I wish B3D would do more relevant and in-depth (musings included; I trust Dave :) ) architecture comparisons using their regular suite of benchmarks in their new card/architecture articles. Games may be used but it's not really what I expect here for a new card/architecture article.

There may not be an equal to Dave (I don't quite think Nick/Neeyik is up to it but maybe the new EIC (i.e. Nick, my guess) wouldn't do these new card/architecture articles and a new B3D staff would) but maybe such regrets and disappointments are premature. And hey, maybe you could get your wish (comparisons). :)

No, apparently *I'm* last to see this!

    Dave,

B3D, at your command, has been a major part of my life for the last 6, maybe 7 years. Though I'm not the most active poster here, B3D more than any other site I consider home. I just want you to know how how grateful I am for what you have done. We've seen people come and go, new technologies, new products, hell, new companies. But through it all B3D has remained an amazing, dare I say they best source for 3D graphics discussion on the web. In 50 years, when I'm an old man, I will still remember how great this place was. I want you to know just how much an impression this has had on me, and the thousands of other members on this site. You should be very, very proud.

I hope your new position at ATI brings you the utmost fortune and happiness. I only hope that I might have similar fortune and some day be able to speak with you on equal terms. Best of wishes Dave!

For all that's good and holy.... NOOOOOOOOOOO! Y tu Brutus?!!!! LOL I about crapped my pants when I finally read you got a new job with ATI. I guess I better say congrats, but I don't think you deserve it you sorry bastard! Where the hell am I going to get all my inside info now? I hope you're happy! ROFLMAO Just kidding you know. Couldn't happen to a better guy and a better web site owner. I had a similar(though much, much smaller) experience. You'll be glad you made the choice, especially for all free stuff, trips and for the crazy ho's. Plus, moving to Canada is definitely a step up from England. Just that much closer to the promise land(aka Detroit) LOL. Now if ATI goes down the crapper, you do know you'll get all the blame, right? Hopefully you have a plan B. Maybe there are some great pubs nearby that you can work at if life gets too rough.

BTW, I hope you like CFL football. Go Argonauts!! LOL

P.S. You did say I'm taking over the site, right?

P.S.S. Note to self, this site isn't just about Xbox 360 and PS3 discussion. Got to remember to check other forums as well.

P.S.S.S. I know you'll do us proud. Can't wait to see your new work.

    P.S.S.S.S. Hi Joe! ;)
