just watched ur video jvd, the water shader is soooo simple....not anywhere near far cry. also the fps seemed much lower than 30.

Hovz could you like.. take a long walk off a short pier or something? If you were paying attention. Which you obviously werent, My pictures were taken at medium quality. Medium. With vegetation/grass/shadows disabled. You dont even like MMORPGs. You hate them. You said so yourself. Why are you here? Oh thats right. To argue for the sake of arguing. Thats what gives you your jollies.

actually it was around 32fps with some dips down to the mid 25s but once the video stoped it shot back up to 40fps so i dunno what that problem is .

Secondly yea, the water doesn't look so great but thats because there is nothing to reflect on it .

yet somehow its still reflecting something, even tho nothing is there. it looks like the ps 1 water path in halflife 2.

i was referring to a post made by someone else. i posted pics for COMPARISON TO YOUR PICS, YOUR PICS. he made a statement criticizing the textures in my pics in comparison to yours. thats ridiculous cuz the pics i posted look twice as good as the ones u posted, and probly run much better too.

Sure they do Hovz, Sure they do. I hate to break it to you Hovz, The pictures you posted dont look that good. They have good artistic style on the charactors and monsters. But the players are made up of low polygon. The game lacks any type of lighting. I have no problem with Lineage 2 persay. But the game lacks, Comparable Lighting, bump maps, Speculiar effects. Lineage 2 was a good engine for when it was released a year ago. But the engine itself has nothing on EQ 2. You try to say they are comparable when they are obviously not. Hate as much as you like about EQ 2's style and graphics, The engines arent comparable. EQ 2 renders almost 3x as much. When you get close to the textures in Lineage 2. They get grainy and washed out. It does a good job of pretending to be a detailed enviroment. But the enviroment loses all reality when you get up close and personal with it. This is something that doesnt happen in EQ 2. The textures/bump mapping never lose clarity despite your distance from them.

Lets not forget the shadows, obviously superior lighting, and polygon count of the charactors and way better sound engine.

Oh and your water complaint. The water will reflect the sky, Interesting concept isnt it? If the sky is dark and murky. The water is dark and murky. They made water reflect its enviroment. So yes its reflecting the color of the sky.

Notice how he keeps ignoring my pic, and ignoring how yours were taken at lower settings? Pure trollery.

Well, I should have given a more detailed reply. Honestly you get frustrated discussing anything with this guy. You try to be nice, Explain, Go out of your way to clarify your opinion and thoughts on just about any discussion.

He replies with 1 sentence replies with no real point other than his agenda to be difficult and keep an argument going. I have always known he's a troll just by following his posting methods for a long time. But I guess I humor myself and hope he'll one day be reasonable.

P.S. What does Doom 3 and Far Cry have to do with EQ 2 or even Lineage 2?

Well, that water probably wasn't on the highest detail setting. On highest detail with shaders on, the water in EQ2 is very good. But it's too slow for my machine. I don't think SOE uses the most efficient rendering algorithm for water reflection.

    Edit:
Nevermind! The highest-detail water isn't slow at all! Damn, SOE screwed up on how this works. Here's how you get the highest quality with high performance:
    1. Set reflections to mirror + cubemap
    2. Set cubemap updates to one time

This eliminates the performance hit of cubemap updates, but the water rendered with mirror + cubemap, provided complex shaders are at a decent distance, doesn't use cubemaps at all! So you get max detail water, and good performance!

    Edit 2:
Nevermind again! I think that water that jvd posted above was on the highest detail, and that reflection quite exact to what should have been there.
