Hanners article on DX10.1 got a bit of attention yesterday and our site is still being hammered.

Thought I'd post up here about it just in case anyone woke up, wondered why the site was gone, and came here looking for an answer.

Is being Slashdotted more severe than being Dugg? There's hoardes of Digg fans, though the articles are of questionable quality.

Yes. Digg is a pale imitation of Slashdot, I don't think there is any bigger site test than a slashdotting still.

Basically you get as many hits as you can keep your server up for.

I remember the CS Club at my university got themselves Slashdotted 5 times this term. At the peak of it, they pushed 1TB during the day. All in all, I think they transferred about 15TB. They were hosting about 400MB movies. None of the servers crashed though.
