I thought it was for real thinking WTF they downgraded the graphics for the MMO. Kinda hard going to something looking like that when I had it looking like below which wasn't even with HDR enabled!

I mean sure PC version and then mods but after these years an uppgrade would be in order right? But good to know they where fake (duh stupid me!).

Hold on one second there. In Morrowind, you could kill main quest NPCs. Ginoramic super difference. :D

On the other hand, Morrowind's combat was amazingly mindless and skill-free so in that respect it was even more MoMo-ready.

Well Fallout3 does have some major improvements over Oblivion.

The catch is that because this is a MMO, they may bring the requirements down. You never know.

What was so skill-free about Morrowind's combat?

The only genuine difference that I detected, compared to Oblivion, is that the latter did not have automatic block. Which sucked btw, due to the laggy blocking they put into the game. By the time my character had raised his shield he'd be hit by the attacker's weapon already!

Anyway, Bethesda's RPGs are really weirdly balanced, in that you die super easy on early levels and become pretty much invincible higher up. I suppose this is because they try to design too big a world with too much interactivity, spells, professions etc in it, and in the end they don't have enough development time to balance things correctly.

I remember trying to kill enemies as a wood elf in Morrowind using the starting dagger... Took about 200 stabs - 90% of which MISSED completely - to kill anything, and all the flailing with the knife would wear it out to the point of uselessness. Lol... Worthless combat system. The durability system sucked even more of course. Just LOOKING at your gear would take off a few points of durability, which translated into like 80% less damage...

Lol, a friggin MACE - a hunk of solid IRON - would wear out and do almost no damage at all if its durability dropped to 50%. How can a mace wear out?

Despite some of the short coming in Oblivion and the KOTOR series I would consider them to be some of the best wrpgs we have seen over the last decade. While I dont mind a good MMO it is rather disheartening to see 2 great series both go over to the genre without proper sequels.

RPGs love to abstract things into stats and levels, and it often gets ridiculous, but it's an addiction for both the players and the developers obviously heh.

Oooh, is there a Daggerfall redo being done? That would be almost as good as the original TES being redone. Although original TES would be impossible, the world was just too huge. While theoretically possible to run/ride a horse across it, it would take you many many months.

All this talk about a possible Elder Scrolls MMO has made me start playing Morrowind again... :D

I re-made my wood elf, giving him stealth, athletics, marksman, light armor, short weapons, block, restoration and alchemy and such skills that seemed appropriate for a roguey-type character. Aiming at acquiring a set of glass armor and weapons as early as possible in the game, anyone remember how you can do that?

Of course, glass armor can't be enchanted worth s***... I recall last time I played Morrowind I eventually dumped all my light armor and went heavy obsidian plate all over, then enchanted strength into all the pieces so that I could carry tons and make mega super jumps. It was crazy.

Yup this Lucius guy who is working on DaggerXL and DarkXL (Dark Forces engine recreation) is fairly amazing. I'm looking forward to both quite eagerly.

    I remember...

there are few glass armor items in ald ruhn's fighters guild.
When you go down the stairs and explore around, there are 1 locked door with 90 or something lock. Unlock them and you will get many glass items.

You can try to steal key from guy patroling down, or lockpick it some other way

Hehe, I usually just used clothing for my main enchantments, keeping light armor (to keep in theme). Though I did cave in and swap out a piece or two that had particularly high enchantability, such as the helm and shield.

Heh, I had a wood elf ranger type who could literally jump across small valleys by the time Bloodmoon came along. His movement speed was insane.

Did someone at least officialy measure in-game distance and concluded age old question which is: is Morrowind bigger than Oblivion (game world wise)

Morrowind is quite a bit smaller, actually. By a factor of four, I think. I'm not sure how the number of dungeons/places to visit compare, though.

Wow that brings back memories of many many many many hours lost on Daggerfall and the original TES.

I found Morrowind and Oblivion both a bit disappointing in character creation as well as world size and other things. Graphics were great though.

This is something I can't let go; how exactly did WoW ruin Warcraft series, unless you count getting more people to know it, "non-gamers" included?
Killing "big names"? They've done it in the RTS's too
Messing up the lore? Sure, 1 huge mistake (eredar/draenei incident), but that's it. IIRC the RTS's did quite a few changes on the way too, as well as novels etc did.
