If George Broussard wrote a book on DNF, he should name it: The Dream is Dead. It's Done.

BZB talked about the game being a "chore to play" that's a perfect depiction of what I felt playing most of the game. It's sad because it had its moments... But none of them are due to the core gameplay,

Such a mess. The 2001 trailer is still incredible.

The 2001 trailer must have been pretty much completely faked scripted stuff. It had style though, and some great modeling and art for the time.

Well, I am curious to see what Gearbox does with it. mm.. I do want to unlock all that shit in the Duke mansion, but the multiplayer is just so... tedious.

Well, the game is being patched with Valve's VAC anti-cheat protection, push to talk functionality, some other stuff, and the ability to carry more than two weapons at a time.

Sadly, you'll be limited to four, but at least it's better than fucking two. Really, people(People meaning anyone who thought that was a good idea, developer or no), that's just dumb.

It's the duke! More than 2 weapons should have been a no-brainer. :(

So that's confirmed to be patched? :) Got a link?

Kind of like the Half-Life 2 trailer/presentation shown by Valve before the big source code leak back in...whenever. 2002? Jesus, it was so long ago I can't even remember.

Anyway, none of that fancy-pants AI shit they showed ever made it into the game, if it ever even existed in the first place, as the leak showed all that stuff they bragged about was scripted.

    W00t!

Four's OK. I wish you could have four in Crysis, but hey... :( One pistol sidearm, two assault weps of your choice, one shotgun (pump, or auto); that'd been a sweet setup. It's a fucking bother now having to switch weapons since you don't carry ammo separately for guns anymore. Drop the gun, you drop all ammo too. BAH.

I always hesitate to use the shotguns now because the ammo capacity is so damn low. I don't want to be stuck somewhere with no ammo.

Original Duke3D was kind of ridiculous though, with like 8 weapons, many of which were gigantic and/or had huge ammo, like the rocket launcher and chaingun. :D

It's dumb, and simply pure developer exhaustion I'd think. Maybe they just wanted to get the game out there and didn't want to spend any time thinking about how to figure out a system to efficiently switch guns with a joypad, or think about how having multiple guns would affect game difficulty balance.

Yeah, 4 isn't that bad really. Aside from the shotgun, ripper, RPG, and sniper, all that's left is the freeze ray, devastator, and shrink gun, which rarely showed up or had rather novel usefulness. The pistol is kinda useless - needed akimbo. :p

Duke Forever's pistol should have looked phat and wicked like it did in D3D. Instead it's tiny and anemic and stupid-looking. Bah. :(

The two weapon thing comes from Halo and then COD4. People are ripping off from them, and Duke Nukem Forever is basically a poorly put together copy of other games, so...

    Texture improvements?

And the four weapon support is not in MP? Weak.

Heh, I had some epic shotgun-only LAN matches back in oldskool DN3D... Who needs many weps in MP? MP is a test of skill, SP is far more critical in that regard IMO. In SP, the fun comes from killing bad guys in wicked ways with big guns. More big guns = better.

Just started up Duke to try the game post-patch, and I could not get the big, dumb blonde to carry my promised 4 weapons! Still just 2 guns allowed, do I have to start all over from scratch for it to work?

Also, framerate sucks now! I don't understand why, the game ran butter smooth when I first tried it. Not sure if it's the 11.8 preview drivers or the game patch that screwed things up, but something's seriously wrong here. I'm only running 1280*768 also, which is a pittance for a 6970 crossfire setup. :(

I quit playing with Duke because I got bored with just 2 guns, so back into the bit-closet he goes when I'm still stuck at 2...

Its an option, disabled by default.

6950 single card at 1920 * 1200 no problem with framerate here.

Aah, I C. Thanks, I will look thru the config options then.

Also, Duke is now out for the Mac as well. If you've already bought the PC version then the OSX port is merely a free download away. :D
