Must be something to do with the processors?

BTW, I have SSE2 (and SSE) enabled in the CS:S cvars. I had to set r_sse2 to "1" myself, and that either set r_sse automatically or it enabled on install. Perhaps something to consider.

    VST

Is the VST not a seperate entinty from CS:S? I wouldn't think that the CS:S cvars would affect the VST at all. Of course, I don't even have it, so I don't really know.

In Options, under the "Keyboard" Tab, there is an "Advanced" button. When you click on it, there is a check box for enabling the "developer console". Check the box.

Bring down the console (default key "~", as shown in the above configuation window), begin to type "r_sse2". As you go along, it will show the matches underneath the console (and for certain cvars, the value as well). The ones relevant to my P4 are "r_sse" and "r_sse2". Not sure which would be fastest for different Athlon chips (there is an "r_3dnow" as well).

    ...

To set a cvar, type in its name and the value to set, like "r_sse2 1", and then it will give you feedback on the resulting status of the cvar (should say something like "SSE2 enabled" for this).

To check a cvar, type in its name, like "r_sse", and it will also give you the feedback on the cvar.
    ...

BTW, the stress test is accessed from the same vgui that handles the CS:S game and the console where you set the cvars, and is affected by the other settings set for CS:S.

SSE, SSE2, MMX and 3dnow were all already enabled for my CPU.

I took some more benchies, but I'll post them in the thread under the graphics card forum, rather than watch several threads on the same topic.
