aye, doom3 wasn't poor, it was bloody awful. :D

sorry but the horror simply didn't work on me, I found I knew what was going to happen with near 100% accuracy and the "atmosphere" was utter rubbish compared to a game like the original thief, only a few years older.. :?

And I can heartfully say I don't agree on any of them with you. Happy now? Many of us do like the graphics of Half Life 2, you don't. Too bad, but I won't lose a nights sleep over it!

i didnt notice how flat HL2 was....cause guess what...i was playing the game...
i did notice how repetitaive and boring D3 was....cause guess what...i was playing the game...

and i also had much fun sneaking around while *GASP* playing Far Cry....

i really dont understand people bitching that HL2 is flat so they couldnt play it.....what, untill last few months you never played a fucking game before?
so, all those old games with old engines are also crap for you or what?
    WTF?

my problem with D3 was overhyped piece of crap WRT gameplay....there was none....it was boring....room after room with monsters always spawning on same place.....blah.....

what it all boils down to is the enormous discrepancy between the hardware and the software side of things. theres just no content, the few shaders popped on top of dx7 level style engines dont count. in that regard, all the 'high hopes' games were let-downs. very frustrating for the enthusiast imo....

    go croteam ;)

I just played pathways redux, a mod for d3 it is weird. It is also very short, so you might want to try it. I personally liked the vibe it had if nothing else.

I really liked the intro and some other moments... Was the water shader their own making?

    Graphics/ Technology Wise for me:

    FarCry >> Doom 3 > Half-Life2

    Gameplay Wise for me:

    Doom 3 > FarCry > Half-Life2

Doom 3 was just a plain fun game, and was a great SP experience. The whole story was excellent (if you listened to the PDA's), the graphics immersed me, and it's neat to play.

Well, it's just, now I'm a bit more open minded and objective towards things, rather than being a fool and trying to spread FUD.

Plus I talked with a really nice guy, who works for a company who licenced the CryEngine, and he gave me some very interesting information, which convinced me CryEngine can do all that Doom 3 can do plus quite a bit more (note: I didn't say which engine was "most advanced").

However, modding for D3 is much better in general than FarCry. I do all modelling, coding and mapping for D3.
