Doom [2016]

I might change my mind when it's released, but I kind of wish they'd try something different; it looks like a faster paced Doom 3 to me.

Probably same gameplay features - but in a much more developed build.
Makes no sense to show the game with year-old code and graphics :)

Wow, game looks awesome. Pure action.

But is it like Doom action? Original games were (at least higher difficulty levels) fast paced arcade puzzle shooters, where resource management was vital and you moved really fast. There was no saves, so you played each level like you were speedrunning it. You knew how much ammo, armor and health you needed for certain sections of the level and sometimes secrets (extra resources) were eassential for your survival.

Now you get items and health from mobs, your movement grinds to a hold when you execute enemy (can other enemies shoot you and damage you while you're locked into animation sequence? ), movements speed was said to be fast, but it felt really slow in demo. Maybe it's gamepad limitation, rather then choice they would make if it was pure kb+m game.

Anyway, I feel like ultimately linear singleplayer game don't matter in todays world (at least in saleswise). It's all about multiplayer and how well it works or not. I personally don't care much about multiplayer games anymore so maybe I'll buy this under 15 euros from Steam sales.

Good to see this ! Good, hope it's difficult and not the cake walk shown for demo. Really like that they brought Doom back into limelight. The applause from the crowd was exactly my reaction. Loving the create your own co op shit. Man, they really made Doom matter again.

Wonder if we didn't know there was a cancelled version before this, would we be calling this same old doom3.5, half hearted , etc etc ;) ! Now that we know there was a totally non-doomish Doom planned we feel good they brought it back to its own identity. I still hope there are more environments cos the snap map feature seemed to suggest just the same metal corridors forever.

The bad part: spring 2016  I was really hoping for November!

Doom was so refreshing to see; an FPS that finally goes back to core mechanics and removes the cover, shoot, aim, heal designs right out. I couldn't stop smiling the whole presentation.

Porn indeed! Looks very classic Doom but very much updated with some nice close action gore moves. I like that the melee parts (apart from the chainsaw) are quick so as not to distract from the action too much and keep it fast paced. It's a great engine for this purpose imo, looks fantastic.

Still keeping up the tradition, I see. Last you discussed it, you worked at a school, you said...? ;)

I'm boycotting Bethesda
Curious as to why. I'm boycotting them too, for being such a douchebag company abandoning buggy games after making millions off of them, but I'm gonna have to abandon my convictions pretty soon. I feel like I want to buy Wolfenstein, and I definitely want to buy Fallout 4 and DOOM. Damn. Why can't these bastards make it easier to ignore their games? :p

Seems pretty fast paced to me. It's maybe not original DOOM fast where you ran at roughly the speed of a galloping horse, but it's still plenty fast I'd say. Enemies also seem plenty dangerous, especially the ranged ones shooting very fast projectiles (or even charging you from a distance.)

It's easy to sit back and pick apart a game like this after a demo going, "oh, but this and that doesn't seem exactly like it was!" No, maybe they aren't but if you want a game exactly like original DOOM, maybe you should just go back and play that instead. Times change, okay? :p There's plenty nods back to oldskool DOOM game design, with some new stuff to shake things up and make them more interesting (the double jumping ability, grabbing ledges and pulling yourself up, melee attacks and such.)

You haven't even played the game, so "really slow" seems harsh. You might say DOOM 3 was "really slow" in comparison to the original, but this game sure isn't really slow. SlowER, perhaps. Anyway, if you want superfast run speed, I'm sure you could mod it in if you really want to. The game seems to be quite flexible and open.

WTH lol? Why?

I'm an android user !

Also I did work for a school but I'm at sprint now

Perhaps it was just a little demo to show off the graphics, but I don't see much of a game in the gameplay video.

Running around mowing down and ripping apart enemies, who look like they're just standing there waiting to be blown to pieces, looks like the fps version of Carmageddon.

Brownie points for smoothness though. And shiny shine.

^yeah. Can't help but agree on that. Besides, how fast is it gonna be when you're constantly being interrupted for the sake of meticulously pre-animated melee kills. That aspect seems like it might get old fairly quickly. I also think it looks a little uninspired from an aesthetic point of view.
I know it's Doom, but is fire, metallic structures and skulls on spikes really all there is to ID's vision of hell?

As for Porn. Well, maybe from an era when exposed legs could still cause an outrage. (That said, considering how determined we are to regress back to the middle ages in that regard, maybe there's some merit to the comparison)
