I know it is the drivers because i have tried two ati cards (8500 and 9000) and both had that green shading IN 3 PC'S.

The problem in far cry is ALL. Far cry won't work well in a non-dx9 ati card: missing textures, BIG BIG slowdowns, green water, blinky water (and that with the water on LOW, when it works PERFECT in a ti4400 in HIGH (and a ti4400 supports only ps1.1, and 8500/9000 support 1.4, so it's not because it doesn't have ps2.0).

The problem is here since far cry launchment, very few people have made it work without bugs in a non-dx9 ATI hardware, and guess what? no fix yet, lots of months later.

And yes, I tried what you suggested.

Edit: I installed the ti4200. Work like a dream. I don't want to go back to nvidia (will miss the image quality and the dual monitor option), but this lack of customer care for the users with "old" cards is unacceptable for me.

Holy crap, I'm getting the same thing with my nVidia videocard.

I did some tests and here is what I came up with:

This is on Far Cry unpatched (retail, original copy).

This is on Far Cry patch 1.1 applied

I am currently running Windows XP SP1, nVidia 61.77, Directx 9.0c

I have experienced that far cry problem with my radeon 8500. It only occurs when I choose a too high level of texture detail. I get extremely weird lighting in doom 3 if I do the same.
This is probably due to the fact that the card has only 64mb of ram and can't accomodate the higher level textures. I can run doom 3 at 800x600 medium textures, anything higher (texture wise) borks the game.

No I didn't make up my mind. I'd like to know how to fix my problems instead of having to buy another card (which I don't want to).

My textures are on LOW quality and the res is 640x480. The fact is that doom3 runs fine the 1-3 times I run it (no matter how long I play), but whenever I run it for the 4-5 time, BANG, green shading.

Happened to me too when I installed dx9.0c and tried the game without the 1.2 patch. I'm not sure if there are still download locations on the net after CryTek has withdrawn the patch, but if you can find it it'll probably fix that one.

A 9000 pro is a decent card for what is gonna be used in my pc (mostly 2D and ocasional gaming). I don't need superhigh resolutions or filters. I like to play on my tv using the TV-OUT, so I don't need more than 640 o 800. And i must be able to play with it if the developer say i can.

    Apparently that was a user-fault :)
The detail level was set too high. I suppose the textures are then larger than what the GPU supports, which results in the weird splits.
Setting a lower detail level made everything render fine on the R8500, no green lights either.
(was using 4.6 or 4.7 drivers, not 100% sure which).

    Same problem on Doom 3

    Hello everyone

I am having the exact problem described (green tint on Doom 3 after 3 plays).

My video card is (you guessed it) a Radeon 9000 Pro, and have tried everything to solve it.

    Thanks for helping.

Don't bother trying to solve it, ATI don't care for the users of the "not the last card"

Really?! Eeek, I am a bit of a n00b compared to you guys on graphics cards problems, but surely ATi have to do something about this? A patch or something? Doom 3 is supposed to support 9000 pro's!

I mean in about 6 months I plan to buy a newer rig (9000 pros are getting a bit dated) but I dont want to have to wait until then to play this game .

Is there any way at all I can try to get this working myself?

    Thanks very much for helping.

So, I can't play Doom 3. Either I reinstall my graphics card drivers every three times I want to play, or I get a newer ATi card!!?

Well, my new rig's gonna b NVidea powered. Can anybody recommend me a good GeForce card to get in my new comp that DOESNT feature having-to-reinstall-your-drivers-everytime-you-want-to-play-an-apparantly-"supported"-game?

Thanks for helping guys. Goddam ATi....

Just so I know, what exactly is the cause of this green lighting issue?

I noticed similar green dots problem, but it helped when I enlargened my swap file to 1GB.

So basically I think the reason was in compressing of textures, since when there were much more swap space, dots disappeared.

I can't find the lightning problems within the game.
Doom 3 is an indoor game so I don't think there is any lightning or even electric sparks.
