    CDs

3 CDs that, in my opinion, are worth purchasing.

    Re: Doom3

Did we play the same game? In doom3 no one hides are does anything even semi inteligent? The most inteligent thing I have seen them do is run at me shooting "usually they have to stop to shoot for some reason in this game" And they have never hidden behind anything for cover EVER unless it was an accident where they just kept trying to run into a wall.

If you turned farcry's ai all the way up they were unbelievably inteligent. For example if you made a noise a person heard they would tell their allies and swarm you not just run at you they would use tactics and surround your position. A few times the AI in Farcry amazed the hell out of me on how well they actually did it. But obviously you played it on easy.

Like I said before I Really like the game and love the way they did the interfaces instead of just a simple bind but I think they could have expanded on it and made it even cooler. I also loved the pda idea and how it works being able to play sound clips without being inside the pda is great and there are some very memoriable sound clips in there.

I just dont like people blatenly lying and saying things this game isn't, If you are buying this game for great AI you are selling yourself short.

This game is great fun for what it is and I think well worth the $$.

I bound the flashlight to my typical alt-fire key (since there is no alt-fire). Hitting the flashlight key a 2nd time, while its active, switches back to your last weapon, so you don't have to cycle up the weapon ladder for it.

This game is awesome. I have already taken a "personal" day for tomorrow, and hung dark curtains over my windows in my office a home.

The hell I went through before resolving the dual-display frame rate nosedive problem, just makes the gfx at 1600x1200, HQ, 2xAA all the more impressive.

For each post of disdain there is its benevolent brother waiting to to shower praise upon Doom3

Some people will like it, and some won't. For example I THINK COUNTERSTRIKE IS CRAP!!!! But that doesn't stop millions of people from enjoying it, does it? And neither does it mean that I won't love HL2.

What I find mighty stupid is that certain notorious posters are saying Doom3 isn't all that and talking up HL2 like it's the second coming. Not saying it's not true but can we shrug off this retarded IHV love fest for a second and at least pretend to be gamers? People are spending more time on these boards trying to convince other people that games rock/suck than actually playing the damn game.

    Whew!!

    Re: Doom3

I did not play Far Cry on easy. I played it one step below 'realistic'. I was never impressed with the AI. Sometimes the enemies would try to flank me or attack me from behind, but that's all I ever saw. Wasn't enough to make the game enjoyable to me. And yes, in Doom3 some of the grunts will take cover around corners or barrels. At least they do on the hard setting. They will stand behind a wall and lean in and out from the wall to shoot at you. They will duck behind barrels and pop up and down to shoot at you. I'm not gonna lie and say the AI in Doom3 is brilliant. It's simple, and that's all it has to be. Zombies and intelligence doesn't really equate. There are surely games with better AI, but I've never been blown away by the AI in a game yet.

I didn't like Far Cry, and personally I would not recommend the game to anyone. It's a matter of taste. If I've somehow managed to offend anyone by saying that, I apologise to you.

    Re: Doom3

You must have forgotten to turn on your monitor then, because there's plenty of places where the grunts take cover. And not just by mistake, if they sit behind a pillar and you try to go around it on the other side and come up behind, they'll circle around the same way you do to avoid getting killed. They've done that enough times for me to know it wasn't accidental.

Not ALL of them hide, and they aren't terribly smart either, but out of the enemies I met so far they're the smartest, and since they're undead marines they should be. The others are just monsters really.

It's easy to make a game where the enemies are all super smart n shit, even a game that emphasizes enemy intelligence uses less than 30% of a modern CPU for AI, but since there's about 1 million more of THEM than there are of YOU, it would be a terrible exercise in frustration playing a game where enemies killed the player as easily as the player kills them. Nobody would like that at all.

On the carrier level I heard them constantly say/complain they hear shit, even though I was sneaking/crawling and not making any noise whatsoever. The AI in FC is clearly totally out of whack.

True, true. It's a horror shoot-em-up with scare moments and weird occult shit going on, AND big guns and disgusting gore that flies across the screen (shoot zombies up close with the shotgun and their brainpan goes one way and the grey matter the other. :p). Unfortunately it all melts away. I hope a mod comes out that adds persistent corpses and ragdoll physics so they stack when they fall on top of each other rather than fall "into" one another! :D

It's not a detective story and it's not a RPG and it's not high-brow. It's mostly about exploring and killing and enjoying the great graphics and impressive martian vistas.

Human corpses don't usually dissolve but if you overkill them they do (IIRC). Kill a bunch of zombie scientists with the pistol and they stack up quite amusingly.

I don't like the fact that the enemies dissolve/dissapear when you kill them... I realize that sometimes they will fall down and not explode into nothing but more often then not they seem to just explode and nothing/very little remains. If a zombie is laying on the ground and you shoot them they just dissapear into nothing. It would be much cooler if you could see their remains with maybe a limb missing. The low res textures also are a let down. Are there any possible options to edit in the config to allow for more detailed textures? I know there is the "ultra quality" setting but was wondering if there was anything else that could be done. Game is great fun though.

Well, I've been playing it for a little while now, and my impressions now are as they were at first sight: the poly count in some places is less than what you might desire, however the game visuals as a whole are by far the best I have seen in a real-time game. Somebody earlier compared it to farcry, this blows farcry away by a huge margin. This game has atmosphere... it's mind boggling, also just look at some of the characters faces as you're going towards your first mission. Apart from the polygons and in the right light, they truly look photorealistic. Honestly Doom III looks slightly better than I expected (and I had immense expectations). I'm absolutely amazed. Not to mention energized by the fact that I'm getting immersed into a game world again (it's been a while since I've had that jaded look wiped off my face).

I'm honestly slightly puzzled at peoples negative comments. I can only assume that at a lower setting it doesn't have the same effect? I am running it at High Detail 1280x1024 on a 6800NU. Runs smooth as I need.

Youguys have to remember that the shadows cast get more complicated with polygons, therefore things are lower polygon than one might at first expect. However to be completely honest and brutal I think id should have included more detailed models, and they still should to be fair to those that bought the game. Somebody with a 6800 ultra can run it with better models.

Anyway the source art was way higher poly count, therefore it seems realistic that they could simply release a uber low poly, and low poly model (compared to the millions in the source art).

    Yah

Was playin at 1024x768 medium with 8xAF forced in the config file, but I lowered it to 800x600 medium with 8xAF. The effect is really good. I have no complaints what-so-ever. This is on a 9500Pro(340/300) and an Athlon64 2800 w/ 512mb DDR400. So, it doesn't take a completely new system to get a really good experience from the game. I think it's easy for people to nitpick about screenshots, but once they see the game in motion, they'll realise what the big deal is.

This is the most ridiculous post since months.

    Seriously.

I haven't finished FC yet (at Steam onlly) but what I've seen from this D3 during last 2-3 hours (Veteran level) it's really obvious that FC has far superior AI over D3. BTW is there any in D3? I couldn't find any so far...
