    CPU-limited here - and it sucks :(

It has a wide range of tests that can tell you a lot about your performance, but I expect that looking at the 3dmark number and using that value to say x is better than y is a pretty common mistake.

3Dmark11 seems to be pretty accurate, and I haven't heard much criticism about it, haven't looked that much either though.

    no,
3dmark is supposed to tell you how future games will perform on your system. I't's never been right

The 3DMark11 score seems pretty accurate to measure GPU performance in current games at the moment. I'd say it's better than any other *single* game/benchmark.
And it's always nice to have such a number under well controlled circumstances (unlike some game benchmark).

This is my translation for 3DMark11

    (See image below)

"Your computer is too slow for the future gaming with current hardware"

Edit: I would say by the year 2013 you should able to break 60FPS in 3DMark11 with couple generations after Cayman architecture.

Obviously it depends on the direction future games take... I never consider existing benchmarks to be a good indicator for future performance.

3dmark is the very best benchmark for determining how fast your computer will run 3dmark.

it's nice for comparing your own PC with.. itself
such as "damn, I'm now at 8927, will I break the 9000 with a marginally better memory timing?"

Changing resolution from 1280x1024 to 1920x1200 - in Canyon Flight test - FPS drops - everything is else remain "CPU LIMITED"
    124PFS drops to 110FPS.

get that OC up, mine is currently stable @ 960mhz with voltage @ 1.225 ( 0.050 bump). I haven't bothered to touch memory clock yet (1375mhz, 6970 clock), this is with the stock cooler as well. Those extra 100 shaders also help

edit: should state that i have a 6950

I would say that is probably very true .. particularly when it comes to knowing the value of CPU/GPU overclocking in enhancing the 3D experience.
