Difference between stacked and layered memory

Aren't they the same thing. I believe its just nand stacked up and they refer to the amount as layers. So a regular nand chip or regular gddr 5 chip would be a single layer. then stacked or layered would start when you add a second floor of gddr 5 logic to the chip and you keep adding more layers on so your stack becomes bigger

For what I've understood, stacked is for bw with density being a secondary bonus, internally layered is only for density.
But why they don't make a 1024 bit wide layered nand?
