Saw this coming. I think MS had planned to make the Kinect device usable with Win7 in the first place.

Slight problem with Kinect's horrendous power useage, as far as a USB device is concerned. On new xboxes you have that proprietary connector that can supply the ~20W needed, but standard USB only supplies 5W-ish. I absolutely hate and detest wall warts, and here it seems needing another one will be unavoidable.

They'll exist though since the PC is an option platform and doesn't require validation from MS?

Not even remotely close... From the Anandtech piece (http://www.anandtech.com/show/4057/microsoft-kinect-the-anandtech-review ).

If the original X360 had 2 rear USB ports, they could have just utilized 2 USB ports to power it just like the vast majority of off the shelf 2.5" HDD enclosures.

I guess the high power is only when using the motor to tilt/pan the camera.
You think it could be powered by 2 USB's on the back of a PC?

I imagine it would be able to. But since it already comes with a wall wart, I doubt MS or another 3rd party will bother making yet another cable adapter. As well, with the wall wart, MS avoids the whole issue of dodgy power over USB of some lower quality motherboards.

A nice little app would be 3D video conferencing. Like, see your grandson in 3D. Too bad we'd be all wearing ridiculous 3D glasses.

The best part is XNA support. Hopefully we'll see some really cool indie and arcade titles coming to the 360. It's the perfect medium to do some crazy weird stuff with Kinect.

Aye, I can't wait to see what people do through XNA with Kinect...

There's nothing official at all. Rumor was started by a website called winrumors who is nothing but tabloid rag that basically only starts....you guessed it...rumors. Worst of all the morron running it has a bad habit of editing his stories on the low, hours or days later if they turn out to be wrong.

Looks like it's officially official now: The Register and BBC articles.

Party games in front of a PC? I don't think so. I don't say it wont happen. Most probably it will. Nevertheless, there should be other uses of kinect for it to be attractive to PC crowd.
