Huh, running the 64bit version in Vista fine here, though with a DX9 card.

Just checked the 32bit version and it runs the same at the settings I've been using, though it does use notably less system RAM.

You two might want to run memtest and check for errors, that sounds exactly like what bad memory does (screwed up everything i downloaded off D2D) essentially anything compressed and over a gig would corrupt, specifically in the CAB files.

Yea i've had a lot of memory go bad.

That may be the issue. I cant run the 64bit version with a Dx10 card nor has anyone else on the internet that I know of.

I recently checked it on my father's rig (q6600 @3.8 -8800gtx sli) and he is averaging about 15-20 frames better on XP in comparison to me on Vista 64 with nearly the same PC specs and settings.

For those running in Dx10 that want to check performance in Dx9 add:

    -dx9

    to the command line.

For fps in and various info enable console "`"

    and then enter:
    r_DisplayInfo = 1

I'd hardly call that negligible. The sand alone is very noticeable.

    you are right......

the sand and also the trees far away...

I was only comparing the rocks and those ducks.

Not sure what they are, but they are not any kind of duck I have seen. Going by the long legs maybe a plover or something.

As far as gameplay goes I was very pleased. It really brings me back already into what I loved about Farcry and even more so. I've played through it several times, once now using nothing but the sleeper shot and then punching people, that was very interesting and challenging (miss a shot or get in a big fire fight you're dead).

Completely screwed up on my system. Looks like the Z-buffering is turned off, or the back-face culling is turned off, or something. Oh and it looks like it's being rendered in 16-bit colour. The "briefing" in the plane just before the parachute jump was given by a pair of floating eyeballs in the dark. Very surreal.

I guess I need to update my drivers, but you know what, I can't be bothered to go doing that sort of thing on a Sunday morning when I've got work to do.

    All highly amusing from 30,000ft.

If I lower post processing then I get a good boost, enough to push me into 30fps at 1920x1200 16xAF

What does postporcessing do apart from the motion blur at high ?

Also, what is the trick for Very High with XP and DX9? That would be appreciated.

My anisotropic filtering is working fine by the way, love the explosion effects, lot more realistic than most games.

Ok, being dumb there not got Very High settings and custom for shaders and it does improve the looks quite considerably. Getting 10-20fps though so changed down to 1280x960 and back to 30fps.

Reminds me of when I first got Far Cry, had to have no AA and lots of jaggies and a lower resolution just to get those funky DX9 PS2.0 effects :D

    Good old Crytek.
