Yep totally agree! Based on how it performs on the 9800GT at low and 1680x1050, I'd be suprised if those older GPU's couldn't handle ~20fps at subHD.

Now THAT would tell us Crysis 2 is well optimised. At least at low settings.

Well I know I will be playing it next year because I dont think this game is worth paying 60 dollars at this point in time. Bargain bin purchase + DX 11 patch + possibly a higher texture pack = gaming bliss :)

They still have a lot of momentum from Crysis ... it really depends what they plan to do with Sandbox and the game data encryption. The game could have legs yet.

Or EA could fuck up two PC franchises by chasing after consoles in one month ... who knows.

PS. dedicated servers only through hosting companies, barf.

The E8500 is faster than your CPU by a fair bit.

He's in agreement with you. He's saying that his slower than E8500 CPU performs well, so E8500 should perform well too.

Maybe Silent_Buddhas suggestion is right and Extreme puts a lot more strain on the CPU?

Using a laptop i3-330m (2.13Ghz 2 cores) and I'm extremely GPU limited (5650m). Task manager has the CPU at around 80% usage while playing. Can even record with FRAPS at a cost of like 2fps..I'm far more CPU limited in games like Fallout 3. Play at around 20fps (playable!) at 1366x768, with several "extreme" or higher options enabled using custom config (basically everything except shaders and shadows). Lower to 600p and it comfortably plays with everything on extreme.

I would suggest that everyone play this at the highest resolution their monitor allows, even if it means lowering some settings. The game benefits hugely from it. Using r_postMSAA=1 and r_edgeAA=2 still scenes are almost bullshot quality! Higher AA settings seem to flicker more.

Repost from here, since it's probably a better place for it.

Very interesting results for me actually... Also I seem to have missed that edgeAA=1 in retail, will test.
Edit: Added r_UseEdgeAA=1 to the mix.

My personal guess, that r_UseEdgeAA=1 is EdgeAA for ATI, and r_PostMSAAEdgeFilterNV=1 is the Nvidia compatible one. Since I'm running 580GTX and r_UseEdgeAA seem to do nothing at all. Also I doubt that r_PostMSAA=2 is MSAA 4x - more likely just some different method of doing the same as r_PostMSAA=1, and it seems to be worse on my card.

P.S. If anyone interested, I'm running on "Very high" with this config added to it :

I had their AA off for a while but the jaggies were annoying the crap out of me. So now I'm playing on vaseline again. Perhaps I should try some manner of forced AA like the Tommti tool...

"The source also claimed that DirectX 10 will not be supported in future, as it's rendered obsolete by DirectX 11"

I hope they mean there won't be a dedicated DX10 path (in favour of usng the DX11 path on DX10 hardware) by that and not that DX10 users will be stuck with DX9 path.

Still, considering the game doesn't even officially support DX9 GPU's, and yet is fully coded in DX9, it's a bit rich to say they won't support something because it's made obsolete by something newer.

Ill be waiting for the patch to purchase either way.

Has Crytek fixed the broken single player yet ie the showstopping bug with nano-thingys not being collected and being reset to zero so you can't upgrade during the single player?

There has been no patch other than the day 1, so, no. The bug does appear to be unpredictable with some people not experiencing it. I haven't seen the bug yet (though I've experienced others).

    Some more moans :)

I don't like the fact that Q and E do not lean. You can only lean when it tells you to putting big letters across the screen. This reduces realism 10 000 times more than dodgy textures.

The cross hairs seem like something off Halo, what is that big triangle? I want something better like a, well cross hairs. I turned it off.

It seems very linear, you cannot roam too far.

The weapons are too large. This is a really important point often missed by developers. Small and pock marked and second hand makes it realistic, having a nuclear hand cannon is not, unless it is Duke Nukem which I am looking forward to.
Having said all that, I do like the Q and E for armour and stealth. They just needed it somewhere else on the keyboard. I l have not come up against spawning so that is one good thing.

I still think this is more Halo/ COD MW rather than pure Far Cry circa 2011
    Shame

Rather than bring on the 3d glasses bring on the rose tinted ones :(

Is Crysis 1 vs. 2 gameplay somewhat like comparing STALKER to Metro 2033?

Well Metro 2033 is probably more linear than Crysis 2... I mean Metro 2033 is like just playing the underground tunnel parts of STALKER.
