My friends and I now mostly play Homeworld / Cataclysm, Diablo 2, Age of Mythology. But our favorite at the moment is Operation Flashpoint. A superb multi-player game, especially with 3 players all in one tank (driver, gunner, commander)!

'Back in the days', we were addicted to Starcraft. I could not even begin to count the amount of hours we played on this!

No fun unless you have a big big group. (Most of the maps are made for 30 people on a side)

Op Flash - most SP missions can be played co-operativley in MP, and a ton are available for download specifically.

BF:1942 desert combat mod, but again best online than a LAN due to the scale.

NOLF2 has a separate mini-campaign for cooperative play.

How about a Mechwarrior game. I love playing those online. Of course you need a good joystick, but if you have one you could also play IL-2, which is a wicked flight sim that has a fantastic editor. I mean if I can make a decent scenario with it, anyone can :)

Step 1: Buy two Saturn consoles.

Step 2: Buy a Saturn Link Cable.

Step 3: Buy two copies of Virtual-On (or otherwise. heh.)

Step 4: Hop onto eBay and fork over a massive amount of cash for a pair of Twin-Stick controllers.

Thanks for the input; however, as I state earlier in this thread, console games are a no go.

well not much can beat System Shock 2 for immersive co-op play...

I'd have to say BF1942 for massive coop

Diablo2 for co-op hacknslash type game

I also really enjoyed Starcraft Team play, being able to control the same units etc. My friend and I have spent many many hundreds of hours playing team co-op marines vs hordes of zergs...

BF1942 has revolutionized multiplayer pc gaming for me. My #1 pick by far.

I used to be working for a MUD. THen I realised C/C++ MUD code bases are for chumps. I started to work on a Java MUD server, never finished. It was supposed to use PosgreSQL as a DB back-end, with various scripting engines. And if I was short on performance -- pfft, like that would happen -- JNI.

Unreal Tournament 2003 with the "Invasion" game mode. Usually played using the Instagib rifle modifier.

A free bonus pack added "Invasion" co-op game mode. It throws hordes of Unreal 1 monsters at the players. It's a nice alternative to the normal player versus player game modes; it levels the playing field when the best, highly experienced player and worst newbie don't compete directly with each other.

    ZoinKs!,

That reminds me, I really liked Unreal Fortress! Very small comunitity, almost none of the crappy childlike Counter Strike spawn killing and the like. They were very understanding to a guy just learning... =)
