Re: Dig's Personal DOOM 3 IQ Evaluation

Hmmm, here's an interesting follow-up question for you that I came up with this morning pre-coffee:

I bought a 5900nu, flashed it to 5950U, didn't like it anywhere near as much as my 9700 pro so I gave it to my 7 year old son to upgrade his GF4. (He loves the 5900 btw, weirdo. ;) )

Would the 5900 @ 5950u speeds be better for me for D3 than my 9700 in Bubbles? :| (Yes, "Bubbles" is my computer and I do name them all. ;) )

BTW-I'm not trying to imply you have any obligation to answer me Kyle, I'm just asking so I can see if I should start talking me son into trying my 9700 for a while....

Dang-it Dig, let Kyle alone. You keep bugging him with questions and cookies and he’s never going to get the guide posted.

Man I've got the money burning a hole in my pocket.....

I think that if I cannot get my computer gear in order before August 5th (Doom 3's release) I simply won't play it until i get all the parts straightened out.

I'm currently running a P4 3.06/1gb ram and I'm waiting on the final benchmarks before making my move. I just sold my 9800xt waiting on the final recommendations and I'm using my old 4200 in the meantime to browse the web.

Right now there are no 6800 series cards available in Montreal and no high end X800's. So that sucks. No way I'm going to play Doom 3 with my old Ti4200 and play it again later with a proper card. I want to enjoy the game without worries the first day I play it.

What I am looking forward to seeing in the [H] Doom 3 guide is enough information to help me with my own system (hypothetical example):

If I wanted to spend $800usd to spend on my actual system, what would be the best way?

    High-end card (800xtpe, 6800ultra $550) extra 1 GB ram ($250)
    or
    6800nu ($299) A64 3400+ and mobo ($500)

I am not looking for a custom recommendation since sending cookies to Kyle from Canada may consitute a threat to U.S. National Security (these U.S. Customs agents are pretty motivated let's just say!) , but enough information to help me make the right choice between these two hypothetical examples is what I am looking for.

What is that mystery card that is more valuable than a GT ?? What about a 256MB 6800nu ???? Maybe they're going to release one just on D3's release day. Wouldn't such a card make sense?

    After all, if there was a 9800SE 256MB on the market, I don't why there couldn't be a 6800nu 256MB for the D3 textures.

Thanks for listening to my neverending brainstorming

    François

What is all this "August 5th" talk about D3? BestBuy is having a midnight madness sale in the US and at 12:01 you'll be able to buy your very own copy.

If it ain't leaked by then, I'm gonna run out and grab a copy. 8) (My wife is off work this weekend so I can...WOOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!! )

Re: Dig's Personal DOOM 3 IQ Evaluation

Judging by these graphs, the 5950U should be somewhat faster, but I don't think the difference would be too noticable in-game.

Yep, that would be a strong candidate for best value in D3.

Well at least Nvidia isn't the only one taking heat for paper launches now.
