    digitalwanderer,

You are officially one of the few americans who pronounces my name correctly!

usually they pronounce it this way: fran-koy-z

(don't apologize it was just me clarifying my nationality.)

By the way I've travelled many times to South Bend,IN (Notre Dame). My PCMiler is not installed on this PC so I don't know if Highand is close to South Bend?

Well I'm in the upper-left corner of the state, (the VERY upper-left corner of the state!), and South Bend is I believe about anywhere from a 1/4" to an 1-1/2" on a map away from the right side of the state....but we're both near the top at least.

The funniest thing is that I am expecting a child and my GF and I were discussing names for the baby and one of my most important criterias is that it be simple, and that it makes sense in english, even though I speak french.

Because if our child wants to be in business he/she won't have to spell his/her name every single day like I do.

ps: sorry - really off topic !

There is hard work that sucks, and hard work that is fun. This experience falls into the latter category for sure.

We will have 12 dual Xeon 2.8GHz boxes that will handle the Guide. The benchmarks last week were supported by 7.

    Re: 6800SLI

We requested that NVIDIA send an SLI setup for testing but they did not come through.

Also asked for NV43, but did not get that either.

Good lord, that setup would've been sweet to see Doom 3 tested with.

I kept trying to get my wife to let me make my son's middle name "Fuckyourmother"....but we settled on "Fox" instead. (After the "X-Files" character I secretely suspect and not the animal, but in me wife's 28th hour of labor I was NOT gonna argue with her about it! )

I figured "Fuckyourmother" for a middle-name would have made sure he didn't grow up to be no nancy-boy... ;)

Hey Kyle, where's me personal performance analysis?

It would be great if, in the Hardware Guide, reasons for performance differences are provided (eg. why, technically, is a 6800 running faster than a X800, what are the most important stuff for every MHz GPU clock difference between competing parts, etc.).

Probably not within the scope of the guide, which is something (I believe) that simply provides numbers without any technical analysis.

Will the guide be published as a book as well?

Will there be any Linux D3 testing? Or is there a Linux D3 in the first place?

I would like to know if we will be able to perform some *cough* "off hours systems tests" in the office network.

A few bottles of champagne later (so excuse the typos)....

First of all, thank you to everyone who sent congratulatory notes on the GOLD announcement. I speak for
everyone at id when I say I wish I could respond to everyone personally, but hopefully this general note
can convey how much we sincerely appreciate the sentiment from everyone out there waiting for the game.

A few people have reminded me of some details omitted from my initial update:

Mac and Linux: Unfortunately I don't have dates for either of these. However, Linux binaries will be
available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves. There are no plans for boxed Linux games.
More remains to be done for the OSX version of DOOM 3 and that will take some time. We won't release
the OSX version until it's just as polished as the PC version. The date for OSX DOOM 3 remains "when it's
done", but I can confirm that it's definitely coming.

That type of information is not what we want to focus on with this guide as it is pointed directly at people that want to purchase DOOM 3 and play the game with a certain level of immersion. I tell you what though Rev, you feel free to take our data and do your own analysis. I certainly don't mind sharing it for that.

    No, web only....
