Sxotty, I'm sure there are many who agree with you on that point and we'll no doubt have those kinds of videos to watch when it actually factors into a buying decision (as in, when you can actually buy it).

I realize this is somewhat of a speculation thread but I have never really gotten criticizing a game for gameplay, bugs or performance when it's far from done. You guys do realize that a game is basically broken until the last couple months of development? I think we should be grateful that Crytek trusted the general public's knowledge enough to show off that less than perfectly polished demo at CES. I'm not specifically talking about you sxotty, mostly about the performance discussion above.

    Good :)

I didn't talk about performance though if you noticed b/c it seems silly at this point in time.

WOW check out this CES Crysis vid I found on youtube. NICE.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYPGKgXZcqw

It looks like there's plenty more where that came from, I might update the post if I find other good ones.

    Edit: Absolutely jawdropping:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GD9ISuPW5k

There are tons of vids on youtube and gametrailers.

Heh, there is one part where he punches a jeep and it goes flying like it's made of rubber.

    Wow! Really? That's so....stoopid

Nice vids. Though one thing i'm starting to notice about Crysis is that explosions/smoke are utterly terrbile. Just look at the chopper explode when he shoots it with that RPG in the first video...it all looks good as it's falling, but as soon as it hits and explode, the smoke and fire just shoot off like they were strapped to a rocket doing .5 times the speed of light in space... way too fast, way to straight.

Everything else looks top notch though

Oh by the way, anyone know what's up with that red thing in the jeep he hops into (right after the first chopper scene) It looks like some kind of generic placeholder for an NPC or something. I hope they tweak the physics a bit more too, those rocks just slid like they were on slime (when they fell off the rock wall).

That first one is just insanely good!! Not sure why you posted the second one though as its pretty much just a very shortened version of the first.

Never seen Crysis looking as good as that though despite the low quality. The physics are just beyond belief, did you see the trees blasting backwards when the rocket struck near by? The the water physics at the shore were just mind blowing!

Sobek, not sure what you mean about the explosions and physics in the rock slide, looked pretty accurate to me. Also thought the smoke was excellent. Its volumetric but not in that really obvious way like in CoD2. And I think the red thing you saw was a blood splat from the player being shot the moment he stepped into the Jeep, could be mistaken though.

    You nailed it!

The volumetric smoke and fire effect is clearly visible and looks extremly close (well very very near atleast!) to the real thingThe video where the heli crashes looks fantastic. About the CoD2 smoke, it isn't really volumetric with particles but with textures or sprites (had once graphics problem which made the game load with highest settings but no textures, different shades of grey).

I fully agree with you about the physics, they are far better than the best shown in a game to this date, How everything is affected by physics and most if not all is desctrutible even the terrain.

Yeah the tank driving through the wall was a real "Holy sh1te!!" moment

    Amazing!

Watch it over a few times, you can see it's basically a red-coated man sitting in the turret position, only it's not there outside of the 'getting-into-the-car' animation  With the rocks, look at the way the smaller rocks just keep gliding around on the ground until he walks past, looks iffy. And since when does fire and smoke shoot away from an explosion like that in jets, never to be seen again?

Just saying is all, it's nice to look at, but it most certainly looks awkward. I don't think we're quite there yet with realistic physics/effects.

Lol, yes I see what you mean about the red man now, kinda glad it wasn't blood actually, I don't really like those kind of effects.

Not sure I agree about the rocks though, seems to me they just have a lot of momentum. Still its difficule to tell for sure given the brief loof and poor quality.

No doubt the physics arn't quite there yet though, I think thats best demonstrated when the tank drives through the shack at a fairly low speed and the pieces fly away about 4 times faster! Still, looks great

    Hooray for shader-porn!

    Hey wait...that almost doesn't apply anymore. Physics-porn? That's almost real :???:

A lot of the complaints so far seem to be about issues that are easily tweaked, such as movement, etc. I'm willing to bet come release a lot of this will be slightly changed to be more real depending on feedback. Not everyone cares about explosions being real, in fact I do not care at all as long as its cool looking. Plus I would assume this game will probably go into a heavy mod loop and it should be cool to see what people pull off with this type of technology.

I'd have to agree for the most part... Movement, AI, health, weapons, effects and even the environment can be fully adjusted, tweaked, added to or subtracted from during the next six to nine months before the game ships. I personally liked the helicopter explosion and loved the trees swaying from the aftermath.

However, I'm still wondering how they're going to cram all of those effects into hardware that isn't bleeding-edge next-gen. Not that I'm not due for a major PC overhaul anyway, but still...

Which of course is right. Crysis is not about being true to life, it's about being larger than life. Big guns, alien invaders, super-soldier armoured suits, big explosions, cars, trucks, tanks, boats, things that go boom, one-lone-man-who-has-to-save-the-world. It's about that hyper-real, over-the-top Hollywood action movie type of experience.

To say "that explosion doesn't look realistic" as you play a power-armour clad lone hero with morphing weapons fighting alien invaders in a frozen sphere of island jungle... is somewhat missing the point.

They want to finish the PC version first before doing the console versions. Seems realistic as they have to plan how on what things to downgrade and modify to make it run acceptable on the consoles at atleast 720p.
But if they decide to make another version (like the difference between PC FC and console FC) then it is probably becouse it is not possible to get the same graphics quality on the consoles.
But even if their console version has half the graphics detail that the PC version has it will still look better than any released console game and anyone comming year 2008 without a doubt!

Have you ever seen wood planks break? The pop and fly into pieces with great speed.
