can't view certain sites

Any ideas whats up with this?

Since more than a week, theres a few sites I can't view from my PC/phone (wifi)/laptop eg
one nz news sites, any wikipedia page (certainly no illegal sites in the slightest)

these sites are online I can view them with mobile data, or if I use a proxy browser on my PC. I've tried 4+ different browsers, its like I've been banned from these sites, with no error messages shown they just refuse to load.
How can I find out whats causing this issue?

Some sort of a virus/trojan, perhaps?

Try installing Malwarebytes and running a deep scan to see if any nasties have sneaked their way into your system.

thanks guys, No malware with malwarebytes, changed dns to google dns, neither helped.
Is there someway I can know why a specific site won't load?

In chrome
* open a new empty tab
* Press F12
* Select the console tab
* Enter a blocked URL
* Decipher the error messages :)

(caps lock is not on, this forum seems to be buggy the last couple of months)

OK I'll see how it is tomorrow and then I'll ring my ISP

edit: OK when I posted the message all the capslock charcters reverted to what it should be

Must definitely be something at your ISP as you said mobile data or using a proxy do allow you to visit those sites.

What happens if you perform a traceroute on those sites? Does it stop at your ISP?

Are those troubled sites HTTPS or nonsecure HTTP?

No reply for 3 hops. Assuming we reached firewall.

Got it fixed, 20 mins on phone, the guy wasn't 100% why it was happening, they laid fibre optic cable in my street over the last 2 weeks, possibly that was the reason.
They had to reset my IP address (I always assumed it was dynamic?). The thing is I would of assumed either all sites worked or all sites didnt work, not a 90% vs 10% mixture

That traceroute isn't very helpful as its not performed from your pc. You can run tracert www.wikipedia.org from the windows CMD.

Could have been a routing issue. I had a similar issue last year where one website suddenly stopped working. My ISP blamed the host but on contacting them they told me they had lots of problems with customers connecting from my ISP. Eventually they changed the routing and everything was OK again.
