Had a very satisfying game last night. Well yeah I too keep getting that Ping 0 shit as well as having the scrool through the servers with huge delyas, but all this aside, the game can be a lot of fun if u actually bother with team work. The thing I like best is that each squad has its own VoIP channel, and the medics brining u back from death is pretty cool.

One problem I am having is with the Anti Armour class, I dont think I know how to use the lock one feature too well, cuz I never seem to hit the fucker. It starts flashing red but as soon as u fire the lock on dissapears and even if I track the vehicle, half the time it dont seem to work. Other then that who ever said the SF class is awsome is sooo right. The rifle absolutely shits all over the Sniper class. The shotty I feel is a bit underpowered, especially since its range is not quite that good ( I had to pump a good 4 shots to kill a dude once at fairly close range).

Perhaps the biggest issue Im having is with lag. I check my ping and it is consistently below 50 but I have times when Im wrapping and my view jerks from left to right as well as this, I might be zoomed in 1 second before and before you know it Im zoomed out again without touching anything and then I get zoomed in again.

The planes are way too fast, but the helicopters can be a lot of fun to fly. OH YEAH man it sucks being an MEC, you dont understand anything they are saying, you have to constantly read the text (well untill you get used to it anyway).

As for the distances being to great, thats a load of horse shit, there are vehicles for use everywhere, and if ur playing with half decent ppl they'll give u a ride. Also if ur part of a squad u'll spawn with ur squad, so its not quite as bad as ya'll make it.

Not a bad game, I just hope they introduce some sort of ranking system, that would be awsome.

I saw something in the options, "Force English Voiceovers" or similar, can't check now though as the login server has decided it doesn't want to be contacted.

The similarities were all there, same nick name, australia, introduced to B3D around the same time, and also a BF lover. Oh well

Back to BF though, I really hope they fix that stutering bug, on the server selection screen

Also, is a 9200 just a 8500. Cuz my 9200 isnt supported (on they FAQ sheet that is)

Seems to run the game fine, obvisouly its still a 8.1 card but I was just wondering if theres any features that I am missing out on. (for starters cant run the terrain setting on anything higher then low, which pretty much makes it look a lot worse then even BF1942)

IIRC the only major difference is the 8500 is 4x2 while the 9000 and 9200 are 4x1.

8500 had at least 128 bit memory. 9200 is 64 bit (9250 is 128). If you have 64 megs ram on that 9200 (many models had) you're lucky to be able to run it at all tho the 8500 on up is at least pixel shader 1.4.

Its funny that this game is TWIMTBP when in fact it supports more ati cards than nvidia. Im really surprised the large base of pixel shader 1.3 nvidia cards wasnt supported... My bud who bought his ti 4200 only a year ago is pretty peeved.

    You can get 64-bit 8500s, 128-bit 9200s and 64-bit 9250s.

Yeah I think you're right.. those were the SE versions eh? Or LE? Still considering how cheap those cards are if you have as little as an ultra cheapo 9200 se 64 bit 128 megs of ram you should be able to run BF2...

Its a 9200 SE, its 128. And my 9200 se also supports ps 1.4

The only reason I bought it cuz I have a desktop a thin compaq evo one (2.6 ghz and 1 gig of ram 533 mhz fbs) but because its thin i cant fit anything but the se in and thats with a bit of plumbing work, had to take the metal piece off. Well it only cost me 60 bucks australian last year so it was damn cheap.

Excellent game, although there are some things which annoy me about it, in general it's alot of fun. I especially like attatching C4 to tanks and gunning people down in a helicopter.

However I would like to see some things changed:
    - More dramatic explosions.
    - Better server browser.
    - Team balancer which puts the highest scoreing players on different teams between rounds.

On the subject of graphics, I think there pretty good as well. If you get the settings right, then there overall on par with Far Cry, possibly a bit better.

Yep, tried my joystick last night. Got the same stupid switched lean left/right controls  Once setup properly it worked great though!

I haven't seen anybody mention it but the kill assist, and capture assist point system is a godsend. Nothing like taking the black hawk in for a base capture with about 4 guys and just racking up the kill assists.

does the game still have the problem where a shrub or sandbag or small wooden fence can stop a tank cold (even at full speed)?

Not in my experience. There's stuff you can bullrush like trafic signs, etc. but some 7feet tall zinc/wooden fences which would be crushed in real-life act as invulnerable walls. I'm thinking they didn't go overboard with the physics otherwise the netcode would suffer.

This game is cool and not overhyped.

There's a lot to learn. If I could master the game as I master Wolf ET, then it's rock'n'roll....

    Graphics are awesome.

Yeah, while there seems to be a lot of hype around the game, I've been really enjoying the demo so far and am very pleased with the performance on my relatively old rig (XP 2400+, 1GBPC2100, 9800Pro (R350) 128MB, Catalyst 5.6 all at stock) -- getting smooth performance with 32-64 players online @1024x768 2xAA All settings to high except textures.

The squad and commander features are very nifty and the claustrophic and vulnerable feel to APC's and tanks is very immersive, although perhaps not entirely realistic. Snipers could probably be improved a bit without making them too powerful. I still haven't got the hang of the stinger missile emplacements -- generally seem a bit hit-and-miss -- I must be doing something wrong. I have yet to master the helicopters -- need to sort out my Flighstick Pro  -- I have read some concerns either here or elsewhere where people think that heli's should be better at weaving in between buildings, etc and less "plane-like" in use as the JSF can already hover. Some of the infantry weapons seem a bit weak as well, requiring one to unload almost an entire clip into enemy units, but on the whole infantry combat is a blast.

Well BF2 must be doing something right as I haven't played WoW since the demo was released.

    Cheers,

    BrynS
