Not to mention the fact that between just 5 members of a top 10 team they would have just as many active processors as we have in our entire team.

Top 100 shouldn't be problem for us, though we're going to need more members to be able crack the top 50 that's for sure.

I see Joe is coming close taking 7th position from me (along with Rasmoo).

That's not the scariest thing (to me). That *could* be because they have a lot of computers at office that stand unused for most of the 24 hrs.

The link geo provided showed lots of people that seemed to think it's perfectly normal to buy 6*(motherboard+CPU+RAM) to build specialized computer-clusters for the sole reason of folding. And some seemed to have more than one such cluster.

So the scary part (to me) is that some of those high-speed people keep that speed on boxes explicitly bought for FAH. That's a whole lot more devotion for staying at the top of the list than just donating through the electricity bill.

Yeah, I think I'm going to get a dozen 4-way Opteron systems for folding!

Though in reality it wouldn't be all that hard to set up an entire plant (the corporation kind) to fold 24-7 if you set it up like epic suggested. Hmm..

I wonder if some of those people have relatives they are hoping to help this way. Maybe it is a way for some of them to feel like they have a little control in a bad situation. At any rate, I am in awe of their devotion to the project.

We are not doing bad either! I play hardly any games now, listen to less amount of music, browse (net) less....watch less movies etc!!! :D

The majority of PCs where I work don't do an awful lot during the weekend or after hours. We talking about say 15 PCs here (but they are mainly Durons).

While installing the software probably isn't that much of a problem (our sys admin guy was fine with it as long as it didn't pose any licensing issues). Getting the company to allow me the time to install it on 15 PCs is another matter completely. Not to mention the fact they would probably want the work units to be donated in the company's name.

Anyone else notice we're stuck at 147/145 even though our WU have increased a fair bit !? - (although 10 minutes after i post this we'll have moved up 10 places? )

hmm, i noticed that too. i think there is a bit of a lag between their ranking updates. might be the reason. i believe another 3 users and we will have an even 100. :)

there is a noticeable difference. my main box runs a 2.53p4 where as the linux box has a 1700+xp. id say its about 60-50 slower than the p4.

although i just finished my second 2nd wu with the linux box. :)

Wellcome Natoi, LittleB, Brynmor and all :D

Falcao you are going very well, your second processor will give you a good speed

    I finally finished my first 1k :)

IMHO we have potential to go to TOP 50 or more 8)

Do you mean the XP takes about twice as much (or more) time to complete a comparable (e.g. equal score) WU? Even though the P4 is clocked over 2/3rds higher compared to the XP, I still wouldn't have excpected to be that much faster, especially after I only recently read somewhere that the XP's superior int processing power suposedly give it a noticable edge over the P4 in F@H...

BTW, to those of you with o/ced PCs, have you tried Prime95 for an extended period of time to check if your calculations remain correct under stess? I read recently that WUs can indeed be corrupted, its just that nobody can verify it until multiple results are submitted. If you can't run Prime95 for an extended period of time without getting an error, chances are you may be submitting WUs with incorrect results, which kinda defeats the purpose of this project. After reading this I checked immediatelly and after several hours Prime95's torture test had still reported no errors so I guess my system's fine. Phew.

With F@H stopped I went on to test how much or little it can take to screw things up, to check this I raised the FSB by just a couple MHz. Only 45 Minutes into the torture test Prime reported a problem while everything else was still working perfectly. I guess too agressive RAM settings can be an issue too. Anybody who's not 100% sure about their system's reliability or stability should check this though...

edit: just noticed that I passed Dave, woohoo! :p
not that I'd expect it to last very long...

XP is faster than a comparable P4, IMO! I have 1700+ (1.46 GHz)....my office's is 1.6 GHz P4! My XP folds faster than P4 for whatever reasons!

P.S.: I couldn't leave my WU on Server for some reasons!!! :(

russ did you add 2 more processors lately. I see your growing your lead by a hell of alot.

I have to tweak my athlonxp(running linux) system to improve the performance,I had to lower performance so that i could compile linux properly. havent changed the settings since.

Actually, I spent the last 3 days of last week with both my home computers on 24/7, plus got a new development machine at work; so for a brief period I had both my old and new development machines going, my test machine and my two machines at home running 24/7.

I had to give up my old development machine on Monday, so I'm back to 2 machines but:
-I've done the beta client "tweak" (in hopes of more gromacs)
-I used to have the 1700+ using the screen saver version but now on my 3.0HT I have the graphical client (so it runs 24/7 instead of only when I'm not at work)

So, all in all, my production should be about twice as much as it used to.

    Here's my lineup:
    -550P3 24/7
-3.0HT 24/7 (being preempted by frequent compilations)
-1600+ for a few hours a night + weekends (many times preempted to play games)
-533P3 for a few hours a night + weekends (when my wife is surfing the internet)
