I have to comment that R300 has one fantastic bonus for the pirates out there  - it does frame buffer math extremely fast, meaning N64 and PSX games can run all effects without horrible frame rate death.

Hmmm, where do I generate a problem report?

    Trying to remain calm here....

It appears that that problem report utility has a rather serious bug in it. If you are running through the DVI adapter as soon as you launch the application it shuts down the DVI out and you are staring at a monitor with no signal. This is the problem report utility. It does the same with the ATi Inspector and ATi Info. Given the hundreds/thousands of users that are forced to utilize the DVI adapter to avoid the rolling lines I would think that this would be something that they would want to rectify.

After using the VGA out for a while I actually ended up reverting to the DVI adapter as I noticed that I could still see the rolling lines once my eyes adjusted to it. I spent about half an hour trying to figure this one out, including sitting there for ten minutes trying to see if it was normal and would come back on. I suppose that I should make another problem report on this as well?

Anyway, is it really required that I give them my life's history in order to submit a problem report? There is no way in hell I'm giving them my physical address nor my phone number, the last thing I need is more telemarketers calling me. I have to tear apart my rig currently to get my serial number off of my video card. Blood pressure is rising quickly here, could they have possibly made this a bigger pain in the ass?

Edit- Man their "support" system is horrible. They force you to select out of a list of pre canned issues, none of which match some of the ones I have to report. Going to file them under warranty I guess. Hiding the problem report in with the system files by default was good thinking on their part, really scew anyone that doesn't know what they are doing. Typical noob goes in there sees a warning and backs out, why didn't they just place the text file in to the ATi support folder? Are they trying to cut back on problem reports by making it as much of a PITA as they can?

Have to try that form out for the next batch of problems I'm having, unlike the others these are all performance related. I haven't checked around to see if they are documented yet or not, but KissPsychoCircuis and NoOneLivesForever both have very poor performance no matter what settings I use. I shut off AA and AF dropped the resolution down to 800x600x16 and set everything in game to lowest and there is still horrendous jerkiness whenever turning in either game. The problem is not there in NoOneLivesForever2, so perhaps it is an issue with the older Lithtech engines? Going to search around and see if it documented or not. Out of the three games I decided to give a shot to now that I have most of the others going well, one works great, two are far worse then they were on my GeForce1 :(

on the rolling lines issue, did you ever bother to try any of the fixes/possible solutions that were posted?
or is rage3d still "beneath you"

I even changed power supplies. New case, new location(changed outlets, checked the circuit it was on at the circuit breaker level), made sure the boards power connector was on its own rail(all of which are damn retarded to have to try for a vd card, but I digress) and the aforementioned power supply swap. Add the cost of my case and my power supply and that's $300. I know, I need to be out at least a few grand, send off a stack of emails and then wait for a couple of months before I should suggest this may be due to an ATi problem of course :p

Ben... firstly, the LithTech engine has never been known for great visuals or performance, especially in older versions (although the version used in Tron2.0 is extremely impressive).

Sometimes 'driver problems' are actually engine problems which "correct" drivers end up tripping over, by the way. I know, that isn't a valid excuse for anything, but it is the truth. Think of C&C:Renegade, it had incredible sorting issues (coded pretty much specifically for nVidia's Z-culling) on ATi and 3dfx's drivers... ATi patched them up right away, but it took 3dhq a long time to get a reliable fix working. And yet Westwood insisted it was a 'driver problem', of course. :p

Finally, on the rolling display thing, I don't have that at all... do you think maybe your card might have a faulty voltage regulator? Hey, it can happen, a friend of mine just had a 9700 Pro bug out on him ("checkerboard" pattern - one or more pipelines failed :()... and I've seen a really horribly screwed Riva128ZX, and a GeForce2 GTS which looked like it was having some kind of psychotic episode

Ok, so basically, you totally didnt listen to one of my posts where i pointed you to a Rage3d thread on the issue.
unplug the power from the card after you get into windows. If the lines go away, BINGO! Something in your system is causing power fluctuations, or you have a faulty card. To test if it is something in your system, unplug everything from the PSU except for the card, and whatever you need to boot (HD). then boot, see if the problem is still there. If not, you found the culprit. This is a procedure that should take max of about 10 mins, and was suggested to you weeks ago.

Everyone is quick to blame ATI on this one, but plenty of fans, etc can cause power fluctuations that htey shouldnt. And as more cards plug directly into the PSU for power, this problem will only get worse. Betcha it shows up with GFFX's also.

ATi explicitly says not to do that. I would wager that that would solve the problem, it could cause a lot of problems too.

I find it unlikely they will show up on the FX. A decent voltage regulator would remove the issue from the R300 boards and nVidia boards are known for using filters that are overkill(the reason many boards based on their chips have problems, companies choose to implement cheap filters that match the requirements). I'm not going to do something that ATi explicitly states not to do.

    Tag-

Figured out how to sort out most of the problems on NOLF, enable VSync(which is odd). Performance is still very poor, and it doesn't matter what settings I use. It gives the appearance of being CPU limited but I have a 2.1GHZ XP and it is currently running slower then it did with my GHZ. Have to check K:pC to see if it also works there.

As far as a faulty voltage regulator, it seems to effect an awful lot of people to be a random issue such as that.

    From ATI:

They also tell you not to flash your bios, etc.

Besides, your utter failure to attempt ANY of the debug options i have offered, or even read the threads i have posted (because of some stupid years old feud) leads me to believe you are happier blaming ATI than spending 15 minutes finding out what the problem is.
Just for your edification, i'll post a nice list of debug options posted by SirEric at rage3d (other than the one i above):

I suggest at least tyring the some of the EASY options listed above before replying. Do i think you will? Nope.
    Enjoy your hate.

Funny to see who is actually being hatefull...

Always a great idea to suggust someone to stick their hands inside of a powered up pc. Although many here know what to look out for while doing something that drastic its still stupid to suggest to another.

Chill out althorin, your hate isnt just showing its oozing out...

    no hate here!
Just distaste. As i have said through this entire thread, i am tired of melodramtic requests for help mingled with threats against a company combined with an absolute REFUSAL to attempt to fix any of the problems - or even troubleshoot them.

    As for danger -

and BTW - nice to see you continuing to fit in your niche of posting! Keep up the great work!

As I stated, ATi stating not to do it.

    I always do this.

    I always do this.

I'm now on my second reputable power supply with adequate power ratings.

    I've already tried this.

    I always do this.

I have explicitly stated that I have tried numerous suggestions that you listed above throughout this thread. As far as different devices, I have tried four(Toshiba 32x CD-ROM, Yamaha 24x8x8 CDRW, CL 2x DVD-ROM, Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM) optical drives, I don't run a floppy, three different hard drives(80GB WD, 20GB Maxtor, 4GB Quantum), two different CPU fans(Vantec 60mm, ThermalTake 80mm SmartFan), disconnecting all of my case fans(seven), disconnecting my Hardcano, unplugging the light on the front of my rig, two different sound cards(on board base nForce audio, Philips Sonic Edge), with and without a modem installed. Two different power supplies and two different cases.

What exactly is left here...? You act like I threw this card in and just gave up trying after it wouldn't work after the first or second week of trying to get it to work. You likely rightly assume I thought that I should be able to plug it in and it would work as advertised out of the box in pretty much everything, like every PowerVR, 3dfx and nVidia part I've owned over the last five years.

Closing in on a month now. I'm not going to pull the plug while it is running and void the warranty, nor have I or will I be flashing the BIOS on this board(I was planning on it, but with the quality level of the part I didn't want to take any risks). I guess I should just expect to have to rebuild my rig multiple times whenever I get a new video card and then still not have it work right.

It's a new MSI K7N2, I've never had a problem with clean power delivery on any MSI board I've ever used for myself or builds for anyone else. It is however possible that that is the case. I have read quite a bit on this problem on your boards and have seen comments from people who managed to fix the problem by getting another R300 board. My problem was reduced considerably by swapping out power supplies, it was horrendous with my Enlight, not nearly as bad with my ThermalTake.

It's always possible you've just nailed some good old-fashioned bad luck on that MSI mainboard. Can you try the Radeon in any other systems?

    It is possible.

An Abit that I know has clean power delivery issues(KT133E, a short lived, actually I don't think it was ever official, chipset/mobo). My Voodoo3, GeForce2Pro, Kyro2 and GeForceDDR did all work fine in it however.
