Ever watched a film, only to realise the trailer was more interesting? So often those veritable "short stories" can be mini works of art, often out-shining the product they're supposed to be advertising. Though often they simply remind you how great it was.

I was wondering what the best trailer for a game you've ever seen was? What are your favourites?

I've seen some good ones, but let me try and recall a few:

    1. Dawn of War (okay, the intro used as a sort of trailer)

    2. Guild Wars (again, intro as a trailer... becoming a popular method :))

    3. Beyond Good & Evil UK trailers 1 and 2.

It's hard to list many, it's only since I got broadband I've paid them much attention, but some of them are really good... and way too many focus on gameplay and totally miss what you're trying to achive with advertising :) Nothing looks more tedious than actual gameplay which is never fun from the outside.

Only trailer that made me laugh hard !

FF7 TV Trailer was nice (a long time ago).
Don't remember any other video game trailer at all.

Can't recall any particular one, but generally I always liked Blizzard's trailers and intros.

Duke E3 trailer sucked ass. It had rotten graphics even for the time (looked like gfx from circa 98-99 or so).

Dawn of war trailer (or intro more accurately, though it fills the same purpose) rocks. Diablo2 intro ROCKS (the one with the inn burning up). WoW intro ROCKS. Heck, the warcraft 3 trailer also ROCKS (the one where the humies and the orcs fight, and then the burning legion arrives from the sky).

Blizzard does great trailers. IIRC, Diablo 1 had three trailers, one of which was just incredibly intense (the one with a raven cleaning a human skull). Starcraft trailers were also very riveting.

Recently I'd have to say ET: Quake Wars.

The trailer for Silent Hill 3 (and, to a lesser extent, SH4) was pretty damn good.

ff8 had a good intro, remember walking into a game shop and i was there wondering why there was such a big crowd (they probably though it was in game graphics )

armies of exigo has a good intro as well, humans vs orcs again (i think this one is better than the warcraft 3 one though)

dungeon keeper 2, horny vs stone knights was good.

I was going to reply to this thread to post that.

I loved it a couple of months ago, too, when I saw it again! It was superbly directed/edited together. The graphics themselves don't matter [IMG] - I found it was the editing, the music, and the humour that made it a great trailer.

Who would rate a trailer based simply on graphics and special effects? [IMG]

Uhh, I'd say that's how 99% of people judge them. I'm assuming that was a joke though, or at least hope it was.

I love Blizzards trailers, I also think they make some of the very best ingame Cinamatics too. I actually bought the collectors edition of Warcraft 3 just for the DVD with the making of those on it.

Haha, that Duke trailer was cool :)

Except for the graphics, I'd say that trailer promised most of what Half-Life 2 brought us. Oh, well, maybe someday we'll see the game.

Anyway, I'd have to say that my favorite trailer was probably the World of Warcraft trailer. Another good one was Planescape: Torment.

I remember getting a CD in a PC Gamer that was a marketing thing for Homeworld. I was curious about the game and once I saw the animated trailer I was hyped! I would say this was my first awesome trailer.

The Dawn of War intro/trailer was awesome.

The officail BF2 trailer I seen was fan-freaking-tastic. To bad the games not anywhere near as cool as the trailer makes it out to be.
