Do you have proof that all those companies will sell BRD units next year? Or is it just blind faith?

    FACT or prediction?

    Hey, do the math...
If one of those 3 (or 2, exactly) guys of HD-DVD promotors skip their duty, HD-DVD alliance will automatically collapse like domino stones without significant 1/3 of their power, hence they have to keep releasing products desperately
For BDA, as long as each company play their role at its prefereble pace it is unnecessary to rush a product to sustain the house.

Why haven't any of the other BDA members announced any solid launch plan? Not even Matsushita announced anything for next year.

For me, that's proof enough. Of course all the above means nothing to you, unsurprisingly. Call me naive... :?

And there are over 160 companies that worked on the HD DVD spec to get it approved with over 200 companies that are part of the DVD Forum...what's your point? Did you know that more than 50% of those companies that you posted above also support HD DVD?

maybe except Unaxis Balzer AG! :p

I'm thinking CES 2005 this January will be very interesting for both camps.

Slightly more relevant to the thread topic, I just want to say that anybody that thinks DVD-Audio, SACD, or any of these dual disc formats will have any relevance to the format war is seriously dillusional. The winner will be the first format to market and/or with the most content.

Why do some people automatically equate anything BR related with Sony? They're not the only ones driving it I thought.

So if the BR consortium (yes, that's what they are I thought) decide A, why is it all of a sudden Sony decided A? I'm beginning to wonder if the fear or threat mentioned earlier is NOT BR over HD-DVD but rather Sony achieving a win of some sort.

Hey, shut up! I already staked the claim to make fun of that name! Pick another, like Moser Baer India Limited or something. :p

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd think that the BluRay Hybrid discs could be played on current BR devices (which there aren't many, and they are expensive, I know). Just like current SACD hybrid discs can be played on all SACD and CD players.
Panasonic has announced a BluRay recorder for beginning of next year, I don't know at what price. I'm sure more announcements will come soon.

Am I the only one here who thinks that if Sony went with HD DVD and the rest went with Blue Ray, then somehow, somehow, PC-Engine will be chanting the virtues of Blueray and death of HD DVD?

Blu Ray is kicking HD-DVD's behind in every single area plus more. There is no way to deny that. I definitely see Blu Ray going standard.

^^^ If that the case, im sure current BR supporters here will switch sides too. hehe.

Pardon me, but i feel this BR/HD format war is given way too much attention around. This is a console forum right? okay we know PS3 will use BR, but imo, BR/HD is plain simple storage at so. There are more important gaming features to talk about. When i buy into a console, guess storage is the last thing on my mind, especially BR/HD arent exactly that differing. As long as i get x-GB of bigger next gen space and y-MB/s of faster next gen speed, BR/HD/DVD whatever.

Hell, PS3 is also but a seriously crippled BR player. Im sure if you are really into a next gen video entertainment player, buying a full standalone BR/HD is the light towards real quality and performance. All the jazz about instant recording playback editing ect.

Is there much for us to cheer about which format will prevail? I see this kind of mass standard battles usually have one dieing out or becoming cross compatible, hardly fun to take sides with. keke.

Hmm, maybe its nice for BR consort to have PS3 in their stable. Surely will tilt the scales with PS popularity, but i hope its well worth it for us-consumers. As we prepare for next gen game boxes, i rather have a 4**** game box than a 2** game box + 2** movie box. Do your expected task well, or dont do at all. "convergence"? Next!

Correct me if wrong, but BR/HD drives arent exactly mass produced even now, let pray tell cost/quality/performance will work out for our pricing tight game boxes.

I actually don't care which format comes out on top (though I do hope the issue is settled soon) because I doubt I'll be using the PS3 for BR playback if the PS2 is an example of a DVD player. Likewise I doubt the Xenon (were it to use HD-DVD) would be a suitable player of that format either.

On the contrary, it's very easy to deny what is utterly impossible.

PlayStation 2 does its gaming task well and its DVD task well too: convergence can work.

Yes it can and Sony is on the forefront of Convergence.... Anyways PCengines seems to over look the fact that Blu-ray is naturally better and more developed than HD-DVD..... BD is made with interactivity in mind.
Sony has gone out of its way to make BD a standard. This new Daul format Disc might make it to market Before HD-DVD can even make its own.
