ATI targets partners dallying with XGI

WE HEARD TALES of ATI managers losing the plot on discovering a customer was considering slipping XGI into its product mix.
And channel sources suggest ATI is beginning to use its muscle to dismiss the challenge of XGI, despite the obvious disadvantage of its youth.

Maybe ATI sees some potential in XGI, as it knows the effort necessary to make a good card. But it is targeting customers with deals designed to counter XGI's expected low cost.

It seems Nvidia is too busy trying to keep its customers away from ATI to worry about the upstart.

XGI's first chip won many ATI and Nvidia partners' hearts. At least, they're wondering if they can shift a few of them.

It may be all about benchmarks on the surface, but behind the scenes, men are stuffing components into boxes, exchanging furtive looks and bundles of cash, buying from whomever can offer the most for the least.

:sadpanda:

And I thought ATi didn't use any underhanded tactics! Sounds like they aren't as clean as a lot of people think.

Yeah ATI would never try to make themselves have an advantage it is unfair... sounds liike the euros idea about microsofts media player :)

hum first it s an inquirer news so far from a fact.

Secondly you may want to look what euros said to MS not what MS/US paid support reported.

True, but if it turns out to be true...
It would be a bit strange, imo, since TM, among others, has been talking about how competition is good for the market and consumers (check review @ Nordic Hardware).

Seconded. After reading some stories from the "other side of the pond" I was amazed on how they managed to spin that story, but that's another matter..

1. I think this XGI story just stupid. Makes no sense at all.

2. MS-EU - I'm still shocked how this country (US) turned 180 degrees during last 2-3 years in terms of free and professional journalism... o_O

Go look in a mirror.
I'll bet you have changed more in the last 2-3 years than journalism has....

Good advice: never go to a casino...

Hello...

Where in this article does it suggest Ati is doing any underhanded tactics? IT ONLY says they are offering partners who may consider getting into XGi really sweet deals.

That is Totally fair and expected Business practices.

Bad practice would be sending around Slanderous and erroneous documents spewing misinformation about a competitors products. Which is something Nvidia has along history of doing.

no one is saying ATI is doing any dirty tricks, a company can very well put some pressure on another without using illegal methods.

Also, there is a difference between what TM says and the company's policy. As far as I know, he only gave his opinion and he is not the CEO of the company so he has no say in the company's policy.
And even if he did, do you honestly believe he would say something like "we want to be the next Microsoft" or "we will kill all competition" publicly? I very much doubt it. I'm not saying that's what he thinks, on the contrary I believe he was honest in what he said, I just don't believe anyone would have said otherwise in such circumstances.

I'm well aware of that, it just felt like he was portraying what the company stands for at that time...

Of course, every company would like to be the sole player in the market, as that way they'll maximise their profit...
But ATI seems to play a bit fairer than others ATM. Though you never know...
