If I were to judge this launch only on the product's merrits, the X800 XL would be a nice card at a great price, however, there's one thing that is so f*cked up with this industry right now, it makes me go  at every new announcement - product availability.

And frankly, yet another party-pooper-mid-Dec-launch from ATi wont win them any points with me.

Why is that? Do they not know what they're doing; messing things up somehow? Or has the situation changed that many times causing their old plans to go obsolete?

    PCIe only

Looks like ATI is not interested in selling X8xx series cards to upgraders. Only OEMs and people who built new Workstations using ePCI. I suspect this is the case since there are not any games that really tax the 9800XT to the point of unplayability.

I have a P2.4/9800XT and Doom3 is fine at 1024x768 and HL2 plays fine both with high details etc.. so there is little incentive for me to bother moving forward until the next generation games tax this HW.

I can understand why they decided to concentrate on ePCI
