Another monitor thread

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using an AOC 24G2U - It's a 1080p 144Hz IPS monitor.

I typically play at 60-75hz with black frame insertion on as I only play single player games.

Now I've been thinking of going 1440p for a while as the odd game looks smeary and I feel like they could do with more pixels.

Now I play mainly at night for a few hours when everyone is in bed so that means blinds closed and it's a dark room.

So being such a dark room 'IPS Glow' is pretty bad and really noticeable so I've been thinking of going to a VA panel as it should be better in the conditions that I game in.

But black smear that I keep reading about, I've never seen a VA panel in action in person I have no idea if it's something I can live with, something that only cheap monitors suffer with or something that black frame insertion can mitigate.

Could anyone offer some advice on VA please as I will be looking to order in the next few days.

How about small oled TV? The smallest ones are 42 inches iirc

Not sure if any Have 1440p vertical res. Maybe ultra wide models?

Or just use 4k oled panels but renders at 3840x1440. Personally I use 3840x1620.

Out my price range and way to large, 27 inch is the largest I can reasonably go on my desk.

I have no direct experience to share with you, however the only gaming VA panel RTings suggests in your budget would be the Asus Tuf here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088MKHW7M and their review here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/tuf-gaming-vg27wq1b

it ticks the boxes you asked for and a few that you didn't: 1440p, 165Hz, VA panel, curved display surface, FreeSync premium, HDR10 capable, decent response times, kinda meh motion performance in really dark scenes (which is what you'll get with a VA panel.)

Whlie you think IPS all glows, you might instead consider the uprated IPS-based LG 27GP850 sold here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B093MTSTKD and reviewed here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gp850-b

It outperforms the above monitor in essentially every metric for an extra $60USD.

This was a big help and has pointed me in the right direction, thank you.
