AMD beats estimates and nears break-even

AMD's stock was up more than 5% in after-hours trading last night as the company beat expectations by reporting a non-GAAP operating loss of only $9M, versus $148M in Q3. The main upsides were quarterly seasonality and sales of 400K Barcelona units (2:1 desktop-server ratio).

This also means that the "investor safety net/excuse" of the ATI goodwill charges can't be used anymore to justify future financial slip-ups.
It will all come down to how effective their processors will be in competing with the 45nm Core 2's, as well as the low-end 65nm Core 2 derivatives (Pentium Dual-Core and Celeron Dual-Core).
 
Wow. I'm very surprised. Good for them. Hopefully they can build on this and eventually start putting some money back into R&D and fabs again.
