"Aliens" angle to 1908's nuke like explosion over

"The explosion on June 30, 1908 was equivalent to 20 million tons of TNT.

"Witnesses twenty to forty miles from the impact point experienced a sudden thermal blast that could be felt through several layers of clothing," writes Jim Oberg in "UFOs & Outer Space Mysteries" (Donning Press, 1984). The blast was recorded as an earthquake at several weather stations in Siberia."

In Europe, it didn't get dark that night. People said they could read the newspaper by the light of the mysterious blast, Oberg reports.  Telescope operators in America noticed degraded sky conditions for months.

No crater was found, and wild speculation ensued."

So was really an alien ship that exploded over Siberia?

what do you mean by aliens .

We are all aliens. We came here from another planet many many thousands of years ago.

They are just us. From our original world looking out for us

Man, what is it with this alien stuff?

Why, when presented with two explanations, one of which involves nothing more than known stuff happening to known stuff, and another involving unknown physics and aliens, do people latch on the the second as being "quite clearly the only simple and logical explanation of the phenomenomenon. That thing involving exploding rocks is just waaayyy too far fetched! After all there's lots of evidence for aliens visiting Earth and no evidence for it ever being hit by an asteroid" :?

I don't get it. Is the world's population truly that f***in' stupid?

</rant>

There are *pictures* of the crater and the miles of trees it knocked down. you can Google for them. They even found another similar impact zone in the Tunisian desert from about sixty years ago. They reckon we get a hit like this somehere on the planet about twice a century, but the last two have been in uninhabitied areas. With people spreading all over the planet and more technologies to track these things when they happen, it's far more likey to be the natural occurance of a meteorite a few tens of metres across than aliens sneaking about the planet in spaceships.

What next? Are they going to blame Krakatoa, or the Gulf of Mexico on a mysterious exploding spaceship?

It's been quite proved that the explosion happened at the height of 8~8.5Km over Tunguska leaving almost no crater whatsoever, and yes, most probably it was a rocky (some say ice) asteroid around 60 mt. large.
In 1993 over the Italian city of Lugo something similar happened, but Thanks God the bolide was a lot smaller (1.5-3 mt) and exploded (14 kton) at a bigger height (30 Km) with no fragmentation.

Wouldnt icy mean comet? It could have been a very loose aggregate of dust particles of about that size or some other weak material.

Im just saying if some thought it was an icy asteroid wouldnt it have been seen approaching the earth...

How can you not of the heard of the Tungeski Blast, its mentioned in Ghostbusters!

If you study any astro-geology you will study it in detail.

Its really hard to detect some earth-crossing asteroids. Only a few years ago NASA issued a near-hit warning (came within X miles, where X is a knats whisker in space terms) as one receeded away. The only saw it because it missed! If it had hit the first warning the Earth would have had was a large bang...

I still liked that scene in "Armegeddon" where Billy-Bob Thornton said, "our budget for asteroid detection only allows us to cover about 2% of the sky, and it's a pretty big-assed sky out there!" or some such.

Problem is even if we saw one coming there just ain't a whole lot we could do about it. :?

Please. The usa will send you and myself along with a bunch of other people from these forums to drill a hole into it and plant a nuke .

Thats all. Dave isn't a 3d tech dude. He is a goverment spook and set up this site to recruit us all

 great line

and by the way... it's 3%!!!!!! (which I guess would be quite a lot still) ;)

but seriously guys... it's just the Predators. They just crashlanded in Siberia. They hate the cold, being reptilian ;)

LOUIS
What happened?

DANA
coming to
Oh... oh... oh... where am I?
opens eyes, sees PETER
Oh... hi...

EGON
regarding LOUIS
He'll be all right.

LOUIS
Boy, the superintendent's gonna be pissed.

RAY
Are you okay?

LOUIS
Who are you guys?

RAY
We're the Ghostbusters.

LOUIS
Who does your taxes?
PETER leads DANA away. RAY, EGON and LOUIS start to walk off.

RAY
You know, Mr. Tully, you are a most fortunate individual!

LOUIS
I know.

RAY
You have been a participant in the biggest interdimensional crossrip since the Tunguska blast of 1909!

LOUIS
Felt great!

EGON
We'd like to get a sample of your brain tissue.

LOUIS
Okay.

WINSTON
throwing up hands and cheering
I love this town!

Outside Ivo Shandor Building
Music: Ghostbusters. The crowd cheers for the Ghostbusters. PETER gives DANA a long kiss on the lips. RAY takes a puff on a cigarette as he waves. PETER escorts DANA into Ecto-1. EGON leaves building. JANINE runs into his arms.

JANINE
epid keeper of all useless knowledge and frequent user of google. ;)
